View Full Version : My first bit of footage =o kicking shizzle

I've been tricking for 6 days so don't expect anything much =] Sorry for the poor extension in the b kick also, have badly pulled hamstrings at the moment so it feels quite uncomfortable to extend in most movements.

Anyway enough with excuses, it's just some basic kicking drills in my back garden, I'll start to regularly update my youtube with random little sessions every now and then so yeah =]

Tips and advise are greatly appreciated.

shh.

nice skippy.

i didn't 540 until i had been tricking for 3 years.

I used to be able to do a really bad straight legged flop over 540, like the big torquey gay ones. It was very inconsistent, I only landed it like 2/5 times, but k slash told me about drilling shizzle and I done dynamic stretchs pretty much every night for about a week before I started. So even though the torquey 540 was gay and inconsistent, it probably helped with the process of learning a better one =]

Thanks for the comments though guys, they're really appreciated.

Cool man! Now, I don't know if you know it, but you're doing cheat 360's haha, you're jumping off one leg. Nice 540 though, it's much better than mine ^_^

Skippy
Mar-18-08, 12:24 PM
with the pop 360s I know I'm definitely jumping off two legs  I just raise my knee up right away and jump to the side a little, so I can see why it'd look like I jump off one leg =] I do a cheat 360 at the end though =]

Thanks for the compliment though augentic haha, your 540 is better than mine shut up!

Lol yeah but I only joined tt because I liked talking about tricks and knew alot about biomechanics so I could help out haha, I never actually tricked. I said I would at one point, sometime last year, then gave up after about a day. But now I'm dedicating myself =]

nice shit skippy lol, i wanna se teh c7 and btwist / btwist round from ye. ( btwist round prolly the best pre-req for btwist s/t, keep it in minddd )

Lol I said I was going over the movements of a cheat 7, not that I could actually do one haha. I tried one today and my hamstring prevented any form of kick. I need to get wayyy more flexible too so when I do them they're not like knee height haha.

I'm out again tomorrow I hope though, but realistically I want to drill my b-kick alot more before I go for b twists again. The ones I could do wayyy back were unforgivingly terrible form.

6 days? and you have a 540...i think we have a new kickster

Haha nah, I want to get good at all areas of tricking =] I will be drilling kicking alot but only for the advantages of dynamic flexibility really, and I can't do flips inside my house haha.

nice job though, you're definitely on a great start!

Lol the only reason people don't learn it in 6 days is if they don't train for it. I mean for my first 3 days I spend tonssss of time drilling tornados and round kicks and snappy chambers and learned a crappy 540 on the third day, then while my hamstrings were far too sore to train I examined techniques and applied them lol =\

You only get out what you put in

Thankyou augentic, thats brought alot to my attention =]

When you kick though, make sure you try and keep your arms in. I used to make that mistake for ages before someone pointed it out haha. And don't forget to point your toes!! XD

Keep practisin' :good:

Haha pointing your toes is madddd hard to do man =p but I will keep trying foreverrrrrr!

I was talking to Jan before about the whole arms thing, he said its mostly just a personal preferance apart from where twisting is involved, but some people prefer it for the ideas of form.

I'll play around with some wrapping the next time I'm out (which should be tomorrow) and see if I enjoy the looks more =] I've got alotttt to work on tomorrow providing the weather keeps up. I will film what I get up to tomorrow if the weather keeps up, hoping to get pop 7s, b twists and scoot gainers down =] Although the realism of me getting them all is unlikely haha. Or even one of them =P

But thats the target for the time being =]

Thanks for all the comments guys! and thankyou augentic for saving my life haha <3

Or I can eat you both?

I liked talking about tricks, and my knowledge of biomechanics meant I could share advise.

I guess me tricking for 6 days means I've only been a member of tt for 6 days right?

To L-V: I just browsed tt and loved the place haha, I used to be into parkour and what not. I will still do parkour, but I won't be doing it as much as I used to.

Gah I'm so pissed, I just found a welllllll better hyper 360 in part of the raw footage I uploaded to my pc and the one in the video is so crap =\ gah I'll stop ranting and make sure I do better in the future.

I landed 540 the first time I tried it. It was complete shit but I landed on the kicking leg...

This was after about 4 years of tkd though so I guess my legs were strong enough for it to work. Strained my groin to hell however!

Good work skippy keep drilling and eventually things get easier and easier. especially the base level kicks :)

Pointing toes gives the illusion of better kick extension as the leg looks longer. But is pretty fucking stupid for crescent kicks and the like as it would probably lead to a broken ankle if you hit something...

JiayoJames
Mar-19-08, 10:13 AM
lol yeah seriously... crescent really isn't a pointy toed kick

Augenatic
Mar-19-08, 10:28 AM
every kick is a pointy toed kick :agony:
Well, except the ones where you hit with the ball of the foot (Front kick/Apchagi, Round kick that hits with the ball of the foot lol/Apchook Dollyo Chagi), the side of the foot (Side Kick/Yeop Chagi) and the heel (Back kick, Dwitt Chagi) ^_^. In tricking, just point your feet on all the kicks that I didn't list, kicks like wheels, hooks, rounds, crescents, you can point your toes on front kicks too if you wish :agony:

JiayoJames
Mar-19-08, 10:39 AM

Well that's just a blatant generalisation. You think it's good form to point your toes for the axe kick in axe - aerial?

No you don't, but you don't hit people with 720's or Jacknives either haha. Tricking isn't meant to hurt or hit people, just to look good. And pointed toes look good so = Point your toes!. And just because you've got pointed toes on a crescent kick doesn't mean that you HIT people with them, you can still hit a target with the wrist. It would be stupid to point your toes on crescent kicks in combat though :agony:.
Well that's just a blatant generalisation. You think it's good form to point your toes for the axe kick in axe - aerial?
You aren't supposed to point your toes on an axe kick (Or actually, when it goes up, your wrist is bent back as much as you can bend it back haha, then you extend your wrist and point your toes when it goes down). But that would be stupid on an axe2aerial, since you would probably just hit the floor with your foot haha.

I gotta disagree here... while kicks in tricking are not practical, and you'd have to be stupid to ever try them in a real fight, they are still theoretically martial... like how you spot your target even though you aren't actually hitting one. Personally I think it's pretty important that we keep kicks as kicks, and not let them become just pretty flourishes.

You aren't supposed to point your toes on an axe kick
That's my point.

Personally I think it's pretty important that we keep kicks as kicks, and not let them become just pretty flourishes.Well, we spot the target because it's necessary haha, it would be really stupid to kick without knowing where you're actually kicking. But I personally think that kicks where you point your toes look much better than the not-pointed ones, and I think that the principle of not pointing them in a fight isn't enough to, yeah, not point them in tricking. You can still keep the martial part of kicks, even if you point your toes haha.

Dang, I find it too hard to express myself in English right now haha, going to sleep now :agony:
