i just got sony vegas pro 8 and might i say, its pretty awesome once you get the hang of it but when i rendered (saved) my file into .avi format the size was 33.5MB for a 9 second video!
can someone please tell me how to save it so it can be much smaller in size, this is very important for when i come to putting videos on youtube

WMM sucks :agony:.
Use Auto GK instead. Google it :).

why not just render it as wmv in vegas? it gets small enough for youtube then, and windows movie maker is such a shitty program, that i find the quality to be worse if you do it through that than just do it with vegas, atleast i feel that i see a difference

I am also having this problem (but with Adobe Premiere Pro 2) but when I put into WMV it makes the quality shit.

Just select the vide format that you want to render your video. (I've the spanish version, but wont be very different like the english one):

You can change the options in the "custom" button.

you have to compress it with a codec of some sort, like divx or the like. i have a similar problem, my file sizes are fine, but even with the quality maxed out i still get shitty vids. this is with vegas 7, but i assume its close enough

hey guys, i spent a while making this just to help some of you guys out, the version of sony vegas i am using was sony vegas 6.

In this i cover the basics of sony vegas. How to render a video, (save the final video) and compress the rendered video (make smaller, because Uncompressed AVI often is massive)

In order to compress you are going to need Auto GK which is a free divx/xvid compression tool, that can be found here - http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=1
