View Full Version : Advantages/Disadvantages
Of bouncing the weight when deadlifting when it hits the ground. As opposed to resting for 1 or 2 seconds then lifting it up again.

advantage = You can say you did more reps
disadvantage = you took the pussy way out and got less effect from lift

Less control in the lift. It is an improper way of deadlifting if you look at the actual exercise. A pro is that you can squeeze out a few more reps.

Is a deadlift still a deadlift if you bounce the bar?

honestly if you're deadlifting 800 lbs then i'd say you've got that shit figured out

The weight is obviously impressive. The form is crazy good. But I've always hated when people used the bounce for anything (bench, deadlift, etc.)

You are getting some assistance from the rebound, and risking damaging either the plates or the ground (probably the ground) and making noise, so it is something to try to avoid. My guess is, it happens on occasion with huge pounds, because if you limit yourself to a weight you can totally control, you might not progress because whenever you hit a new weight you can't always control it perfectly.
It's not as if you're doing dumbell curls by accelerating it down into a trampoline beforehand, floors are not exactly the bounciest things, so it's not as cheating as most people are make it, but still a bad habit.
