View Full Version : Working my chest too much?

I do weighted dips and benchs regularly as parts of my routine, I noticed my upper chest isn't really in proportion, so I'm going to start doing incline presses.
I'm worried that maybe I'll end up working my chest or triceps possibly too much doing this, and need some advise on keeping my sets right for it. I'm looking to gain a bit of both mass and strength.
Would it be wise to do 3 sets of each exercise at about 7 reps?
Baring in mind, straight after it I'd be doing an extra two sets on each exercise at about 2 or 3 reps at a higher weight as part of the experimentation with size & strength thingy I'm doing.

I don't think 3 chest exercises is necessary. But make sure you balance your pushing and pulling evenly.

I'm not intentionally doing 3 chest exercises, I do the dips more so for my triceps since it's more advantageous for my parkour, bench pressing is like just something I love doing haha and want to keep at.
If I have to drop one, I'll probably drop the dips and do more on an isolation exercise to nurture my triceps a bit. But I dunno, is there no way I can make the sets/reps more suitable for this?
No worries about pulling =] I do plenty of deadlifts and weighted pull ups.

We've heard this symptom here before...I believe that's one of the first signs of HIV. You might want to look into that, maybe visit a doctor or STD clinic because you probably have AIDS.

Thanks for warning me man, I'll wear a condom next time I visit your mum to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I prefer dips over bench pressing, but that's just me.
I'm not sure what you mean about changing the sets and reps, they should remain consistent with your goals.

I'm trying too sayyy like, lets say for example if this was considered too much, over training my chest, that I could switch it to something like
bench 3 sets 7 reps
dips 2 sets 7 reps
incline 3 sets 7 reps
plus the strength sets would mean I'm only knocking up like 13 sets which I suppose when you look on the whole pectorials as a whole, wouldn't be too much considering they're a largeish muscle group.
Gah why didn't I say this to myself before I made this thread, I should use common sense more often. Sorry for wasting your time complex haha

You could always just replace your bench pressing within inclined bench pressing if you're worried about volume.

Nooo no worries, when I said incline press I meant incline bench pressing =] so I'll have both benching and inclines in the routine, I'll look up and see what I can do to make my dips more of a tricep focus since I've heard they're a little bit adjustable like that. That would help a lot I'd imagine.
Thanks for the thoughts and help though =]
you will start growing breasts...
Heed what Compleks said as well, you need roughly an equal amount of sets on your back as on your front delts and chest.

I'm not sure if you should count deadlifts into those sets but of course I could be very wrong. Your trapz do get static training from it but alas I am not an educated man in that field (or any other field) so I couldn't give a straight and 100% correct answer, those are my thoughts.
