when I focus on a certain muscle I'm always sore the next day. However, my shoulders are never sore! anyone have a good routine? Mine usually consists of military press side raises and lateral raises. WTF!?

Pushing and pulling works well.

Soreness is irrelevant.

If I punch you in the shoulder, it will be sore the next day. That doesn't mean that I gave you a good workout.

How much weight can you military press and what is your normal loading scheme?

PIG, compleks' post is completely valid. If it will help reassure you, my shoulders rarely if ever got sore while the rest of my body did for some reason. This never worried me because I could tell I was still improving and that is what matters.

I wouldn't bother focusing on shoulders, like, ever. Bench pressing, deadlifting, dips, pull ups, dumbbell rows, all workouts that will do my shoulders little by little. Actually I do dumbbell shoulder shrugs, but the intent is to focus on my traps.

For the time being I have perfectly fine shoulders, not big or anything, but I am happy with how they are in porportion.

That's just you then. I find overhead pressing pretty important.

The "shoulder" in the name "dumbbell shoulder shrugs" is unnecessary and describes the part of the anatomy that moves, not the target of the exercise. The traps are always the focus of a shrug and they are a part of the back musculature -- more specifically, scapular musculature, not the shoulder.

Yes.

When you do these movements, what is getting sore? What is making you stop doing reps, or stop adding weight?

Soreness is actually a good indication of what muscles he's using. That said they can grow while their soreness is masked by the soreness of synergists, this is true.

I train abs and shoulders the same day. My abs get sore but my shoulders don't. Would changing up my routine help? My friend said to try shwartzaneggers. Come Thursday I'm gonna add them into my routine and see what happens.

Id just like to add something. During the winter I went from 185 lbs to 230. Now I'm cutting and I'm at 215. Abs are starting to look sexy! I can't wait to post some pics of the finished product. In guessing mid june.

I'm not really following this thread, but BMX racing doesn't have anything to do with weight lifting or bodybuilding.
