trying backflips tomorow with spotter but.

my mom came in when i was watchin a backflip tutorial and shes like your crazy your going to break your neck. im like no its barley possible ive asked before. shes like YOULL SEE and walked away. wtf now im kinda hesitating to do it. is it even possible to break your neck? are your parents like this too when you started or still are? just ignore my mom and let my spotter help me? i wanna just go for it and do it but i also dont want to die lol. maybe not die i know you can all do it but you have all been doing it for YEARS. tell me about how u felt when you first started with backflips and whatever. id rather not be paralyzed or smething. were gonna be doing it on grass.

I'll make it simple, even if you could/did freak out mid flip and drop down on your head (which is the only possible way in my opinion), with a spotter that just won't happen if he knows what he's doing. when and if you freak out his arms will be there to support you/spin you around. Just do it on plyo or something. Good luck :good:

ok i got your answer... like last year towards the start i was around 150cm and 43 kg i was tiny, 2 of my friends(my tankest ones) grab one foot of mine each and threw me into the air, i was getting like a couple metres of air. after a few goes i tried a back flip and land on the top of my head, i did not break my neck but apparently i was knocked out for a few seconds and so chances are NO you will not break your neck it has to be a combination of force and a bit of a twist to break your neck and you will either land on your back or on your stomach, they both hurt and you get a bit winded thats it, and just get your spotter to be close so if your about to land on your neck he can push you so u dont

yea backflips are hard until you try them and then they are easy and the chance of you breaking your neck is not that high unless you can only jump like 20cm off the ground and have terrible coordination and momentum then you might land on your head you will probably land on your stomach a few times or your knees which hurts like shit for me coz i have dodgy knees but yea you wont break your neck.!!

When I told my dad I wanted to do a back flip, he said "let's go, I'll spot you", so we went outside. Long story short, I still don't have the back flip, and my dad tore his bicep on my first try.

dude, duh back flips are "scary" when you first try them but just dont think about that, as they've all said the chances of you breakin you neck are really slim so dont even have it in your mind..if you can just rotate past your head once, even land on your knees you'll find it much less intimidating so just go for it, dont bail out and have fun :D

Haha your parents are insane. Judging from your reactions to what they've said I assume you actually care about what they think, so meh. If you don't have the balls to go through with it, your loss. If your spotter isn't a complete moron, you'll probably end the day with a new trick in your arsenal. With no injuries! That's the catch, though. If your spotter sucks (i.e. doesn't know the technique himself, is an idiot, etc...) then things do have the potential to go very badly for you, especially if you're this nervous.

Your parents are naturally going to try dissuade you from doing ANYTHING that has even a remote chance of causing you bodily harm. With a spotter, this possibility is pretty much nullified. Until you tell them that either you've given up on your "crazy" idea or you landed the damn thing, they're going to keep harassing you. The sooner you do one or the other, the better.
