When you do side splits, is it better for your legs to be facing up or to the front like turned in???

Yeno some people say it's best to do one way and some say it's best to do another.
Practice both of them together to achieve maximum potential.

It's better if it is facing in, or forward. Then you'll win.

For side kicks it best for them to be facing forward. Afterall, who does a side kick or roundhouse with the toes pointing upward?

I'm still not down, but i usually do them turned in, and then my ballet teacher said it could hurt my hips doing it that way, so she told me to have my legs face up.

In gymnastics you're supposed to have your legs like that, you'll get your middle split sooner or later

It won't hurt your hips unless you aren't flexible.

It's good to have your hips stretch :)

Not necessarily. Holding side splits with certain hip alignments could cause damage.
Doing the splits with your toes up ensures that your femurs are greatly rotated outwards relative to your hips. It achieves the same thing as tilting your hips forwards in the toes forward split. If you don't have outward rotation of your femur it can screw with your hips. As long as you don't feel anything strange in your joints it's most likely harmless.

Sorry I meant to say, it won't mess with your hips unless you feel like reading a book like that.
