View Full Version : how can i make a 540 out of my tornado?
Hi
i was training my tornado for a VERY LONG time
i can kick it very hard, i have tons of air time on it
resently i changed my tornado by starting with the none kicking leg (left) almost straight, and then bent it while i kick, it seems to give me more power
i can that 540 knee that matt emig showed in his tutorial
but when ever i think about doing a 540 i am ALLWAYS putting my none kicking leg down and my kick comes out really bad
what should i do? how can i make it a 540?
try and keep your non kicking leg bent :eh: and try and whip/snap down your kicking leg...just takes lots of practice really.

if you're putting your leg down you probably _don't_ have tons of air time.....

When I first started my 540 I kept my non-kicking leg tucked. When I got better at it, whether you keep it tucked or not doesn't matter, as long as you land on your kicking leg...
I started doing my 540s with a straight leg now and tuck it back in at the end just because I can do it.
Another thing I realized when I was transitioning to my 540 was that no matter how hard I kicked with my tornado kick or how high it was... my 540 kick is always a bit stronger, faster and higher... The power of my tornado kick just isn't enough for the 540. This is for my 540, everyone has their own way.
Also for future references... once you get your 540 down... if you do it with your non-kicking leg straight, it's easier for you to do a sideswipe.
But yeah, a video of your 540 would help us give you advice.

You don't have tonnes of air time haha. If your tornado was high, you'd have no problem with the 540.

Tucking or keeping your leg straight is irrelevant, if you want to 540, pull the non kicking leg behind you, pull it underneath the kicking leg, you'll 540 before you realise it. Think of doing the front splits once you get up in the air.

i dont have air time like juji but i have more air time then lots of others of have pro looking 540s
now tested, i have THE SAME air time that Skilzat has in his 540 on his site

Yeah man, you have so much more airtime than other pro`s, thats why you can`t land a 540 kick, yet the pro`s having -100 seconds airtime can land 540`s with ease.

Yeah dude, you need to work on that tornado, you're jumping too early/at the wrong angle, your kick is off center.
Also, don't blurr out your face, unless you're that insecure.

Okay, I have some tips for you.
1. Dig! You're not really digging at all, you're just kinda' setting off from nowhere, it doesn't work haha! Also, after the dig, you should explode upwards with no delay or anything between the dig and the jump/exploding upwards.
2. Kick through man! It might be easier with a round kick. Don't think of chambering, just KIICK! haha.
3. The "stall" sucks. You'd want to kick as soon as you've left the ground. Maybe not haha, but don't try to "stall" it on purpose.

Basically yes, but the "stalling" thing is probably your heavy chamber that makes the kick come out late. Just experiment with chambering haha :D

Better man, when you kick, pull both arms in close to your chest.
Actually, I still think my first statement was right. Look at your jumping foot right before you jump, it's pointing backwards, I like to have it to the side. Instead of it pointing ^, try pointing it <...of course you'll have to put more rotation into your setup.

Look at the direction his jumping foot is right before it leaves the ground. I had this same problem, it feels so much easier when you don't have to spin from a backwards position. It's called cheating for a reason. : p

That's right, you jump too early. Also focus on using your non-kicking leg to go up rather than across, you don't really need all that much rotational momentum on a 540.

A big problem you have is your body is like a tub of jelly, you must tighten up. Keep tight. Throw a pillow on the floor, it doesn't bounce, throw a metal bar on the ground, it bounces. If your body is loose, it will absorb all the force you put into it. You must be rigid like steel, it will help inrease your speed, control and height.

I still think you're not jumping to your fullest potential; fling your arms and non-kicking leg UP more violently.. you need to focus on the jump more than the kick; you're doing the opposite. also, you might want to try a crescent kick instead of a roundhouse (don't forget to chamber though!) because a crescent goes upward more whereas a roundhouse should take a more horizontal path; here's my 540, I use a crescent.... hope you see what I mean.... if you look closely you might see how the kick somewhat prolongs my air time

tomorrow or the day after ill try tornados in a more "friendly" area (my grass is lame) and ill open a post cose this has gone on 5 pages and its hard t follow
so i should turn more in my setup (maybe try few other setups)
focus more on the jump and less on the kick
try different kicks (crescent)
and be more agressive
i think ill try the tornados on a target

Rigid like steel, means stay tight, contract your muscles. Don't loosen up, loose limbs are dead weight, they're only gonna slow you down and decrease your height. Use all your limbs=arms, legs, in unison=together. Contract your arms legs, swing everything hard, maintain the tension.
If you stay loose, you're probably gonna end up hurting yourself. When you jump up,spin etc, you've got 50-60-70kg's accelerating down to the ground, if you don't contract your muscles, you risk pushing your joints beyond safe ranges of motion and you'll end up stretching ligaments, etc.

On a serious note, your not going up. Your doing a pretty good kick, but you dont jump up at all.
Heres a 540 of mine

It starts about 22 seconds into the vid. Ignore the jacknifes, I've already improved em to be 10x better since I made that vid. Just watch the 540. Notice 3 distinct parts. I throw my hands up and my knee up at the same time for max height. I do stall, and I do throw a chambered kick. As soon as I feel that Ive exited my initial jump and Im now rotating and about to kick, I pull my hands in and twist in the hips. At the same time I throw my leg out kicking through my target, all while spotting my target. Its gonna take you some time to learn all the details, so just try to focus on swinging your arms UP and jumping UP and then quickly WRAPPING.

Juji`s, Skilzat`s, Inkrepid`s and Matt Emig`s (and i changed my own)
i felt that Matt Emig`s and Inkrepid`s setups gave more power then Juji`s and Skilzat`s
but i let you say which is better

oh and you're still not jumping.....
copy Inkrepid's technique, it's really good. In my 540 that I posted earlier my arms are everywhere, so that might not be a terribly good example concerning wrapping..

Also, reconsider what Jimnast said. You don't have good form, you're muscles look loose and relaxed which makes alot of your movement inefficient.

but it fells so much better, i tryed to cheat it more, and use my arms a bit more (i wrap in almost every kick i did)

You still stall too long... You need to kick sooner and try to bring it around faster... Stalled tornados are great and all, but you cant 540 it.

sorry, NoMore, but the problem is still occuring. first, really jump higher, jump as a vertical jump, you need to get more air time, and this can only be achieved if you stomp into the ground, and send yourself to the sky. try to practice the jumping part with the setup and without the kick.
next, the rigid body part: stand still, then tense all your muscles in your body. you're rigid now. so when you do the tornados try to tense your arms as if you were punching, and your legs as if you were - hmm...cycling?, and your abs too.
it helps your body to keep the tornado in a decent form.

Everything you're doing looks really sleepy. You look like you aren't putting any effort into it. Get hyped up and jump as hard as you can, then kick across as fast as you can. Just forget about the technique for a minute and focus on speed.

When doing the tornado kick:
Think about torning the hip sidaways so you avoid doing cresent kicks which are hard to hyper in 540!

Take a look at my 540, I maybe start my setup abit slow, but when I jump, I explode upwards (sorry if it sounds braggy) and do the kick and wrap as fast as possible.

You do the exact opposite, you start your setup with pretty good speed (comparatively) Then, as you jump, everything slows down to maybe half your original speed :wink:

What i saw about your tornado is that you used a hop setup instead of stepping in, wich takes back some momentum (for me at least).
So you might want to try going into your tornado setup by stepping into it instead of doing that hop. Other than that, practise practise practise.
It also looks like you're turning all the way around while doing the setup, instead of stopping yourself. Just stop turning so much and you'll know what i'm talking about ;)
