View Full Version : Are you passionate about tricking?

May-26-08, 01:33 AM
e.g. You think about tricking all the time, wanting to go outside on that sexy patch of grass haha or the gym and just to feel free and know there are no limits to what you can do. The enjoyment of what us Trickers get out of Tricking is what makes life worth living.

IMO it's only passion that can drive Trickers to new heights and levels of skill!
So many people may have a love for something but only dabble in it or watch other people because they don't have the work ethic.

Tricking is hard sport to get even reasonably good at and it's a constant uphill battle to get good but it's all worth it when you land that trick you have been working on for months in your backyard or any measurable success (got stronger, flexible ect) fuels the passion.

Passion is a key ingredient for success, in MAT,Martial Arts and life, because it helps us to focus and drives us to improve. So how many people on NZtricker are passionate about Tricking ?

Yeah sometimes it's hard for me to sleep because I think about it, and the first thing I think about when I wake up is new ways to try to land a trick I'm currently practicing.

Every night before bed I just lay there thinking about tricks constantly & what tricks I want to go out & learn,I even vision samplers in my head when I'm listening to music in bed, although I've only been tricking for a few weeks.

Edit: Fuck! I can't do any trick at the moment because I've injured my back.:agony:

Cheer up Jan!
Everyone still loves you haha.
Injury time is time to be creative and dabble in new influences to think of new tricks and combos.

Hope the project works out fantastic, Chris, you should post it up when it's done if it is a written project.

Tricking is just a side project for me, so I'm not really passionate about it.

When im tricking is probably one of the only times I'm care free:smile:

Also i try not to think about tricking when im not as i always think of combos which i know i should write down......but then don't and promptly forget them.

i think i've got the passion back this last week

i don't think it's all about how regularly you want to trick though.

I'm definitely passionate about it. Tricking brings me greater joy than about 78.4% of the idiots that I have to put up with and greater enjoyment than pretty much any other endeavor ever.

I do agree with this though...

When I land a new Trick, I don't get that buzz anymore.

I alway feel like I should have had the move or combo about 3 months back... I just am that much closer to not-fail

May-26-08, 12:46 PM
oh, I wish I still had the motivation that some of you grasshoppers have . My burning passion is long gone, I don't think tricking 24/7 anymore and I'm not addicted to landing a new move. I just lost that spark somewhere along the way. I guess I just realized that there's other thinks I can do/become lol. I only trick now, because the thought of wasting 4 years for nothing and wasting all those skills make me sad . I'm probably still passionate about it, but not in the same way I was before :eh:

Scott
May-26-08, 06:34 PM
Hahah YES I HAVE, however I've been with her for 3.5 years so that's nothing new. I lost my desire to trick much last May, when I hurt myself a bit. Then, in the absence of tricking I lifted more, and now I feel heavy and slow when I try to twist as fast as I used to. I can still do my tricks, but they're harder for me now.

That being said, tricking on the giant red bouncy blob in Bergen brings it back for me  next week wooooooooooooo!

May-26-08, 06:44 PM
Wow, tricking is like, second only to God... I started 4 years ago and still have the same passion that i did then. I got a job bussing tables recently and it can be pretty tiring, but the money I'm earning I'm saving to go to Loopkicks someday, so when i get tired i just think "Im getting tips to better my flips" (kinda gay but whatever) and i feel better. It's basically what my life revolves around, my diet, lifestyle, health, social circles, free time. I still get buzzed when i learn a new trick. It's wonderful

I'm extremely passionate about tricking. I have similar thoughts about tricking as other people, as in I think about it all day and I even drove 2 hours with a friend of mine to see a seminar that lasted maybe an hour(it was worth it), but when I trick, unless I'm with a large group of people, I just can't feel the energy and enthusiasm that I normally have when I'm envisioning it. I still love it though!

Scott
May-26-08, 09:06 PM
i weigh 190

You don't count. I'm still 10 lbs heavier than you, I'll use that as an excuse til you reach 200. Then I'll gain to 210 and repeat.

I should also add that while I weigh a lot more than Mike Martini, I'm also like half a foot taller than him (I think).

I only weigh around 185lbs, but I can easily notice the 50lbs increase I've gained during the last 4 years. My ankles hurt more easily, and grass tricking makes my shins cry in pain.

Hopefully, I'll stay injury-free from now on:)

I think I'm gonna stick at 185 tbh. I just need to keep this weight for a while and let my body adapt, I think.

And I'm building freaking diamond ankles at the moment:D

i guess that should work in theory =D

i was just talking to a gymnastics coach the other week about weight and he told me people usually get ankle pains no matter what if they're over a certain weight. which i thought you could most likely counteract with conditioning.... but still.

are you just doing the good ole calf raise/shin raise/theraband combo?

Scott
May-27-08, 07:16 AM
I actually don't get ankle pains ever and I weigh more than you guys. Just don't fall in dumb ways/be already crippled with shin splints etc and you'll be fine.

And Kay you weigh 198? Really? How tall are you?!

shengoikee
May-27-08, 07:18 AM
haha you're right... it's just fulltwists and corks that kill me :agony:

oh and every aerial move ever

and tumbling

jan

Foot circles, calve-ish raises and reversed ones... Just general movement in awkward positions which mainly include the ankles.
