I always appreciate the skill of a mad combo, but i prefer watching a beautifully done single trick. Mostly.

Good samplers have both! Insane samplers can put any trick into a combo hahaha, but thats basically reserved for Striking Z

If I could only pick one I'd pick single tricks. Although it depends on the combos, Teddy's latest sampler was mostly combo and was insane. Otts samplers are almost entirely combo but hella goooddd.
Usernames training videos and what not he posts up are as far as I remember, entirely single clips, but I enjoy them a helluva lot.
In general I think I prefer alot of really well done single movements, and small combos, big combos usually bore me unless they build up difficulty as they go along.

Combo-izms FTW.

a mix of both is always best, then it allows the person in question to show that they've mastered the move on its own and can put it in combos to its best effect.

Anyone who tricks with me knows the most important aspect to tricking is using the breakdown.
Good samplers use the breakdown.

Well, you play two very very low notes. then you play a high note.
Then you solo it up.
Or you just listen to any song by Rage and you're bound to find one

i actually prefer single tricks where the performer throws everything hes got into the trick
like kicks with so much power that you couldnt combo it because it got too much momentum to handle haha

Combos, though watching a sampler with clean and powerful single tricks is always welcomed ^^

combos!!! but if one can pull of just wonderfully beautiful single trick, it would look just as visaully striking as a decent combo (just a thought.....)

uh? i dont understand.
Sometimes, when I sing songs, I replace all the words in the VERSES with the word "Combo," and the words in the CHORUS with the word "trick." That way as I sing alone I get a better vision of how the progression of a sampler should be in my mind.
Lets use one of my old samplers as an example, "Welcome Home":
"You could have been all I comboed
But combo combo combo, now get in the triiiicccckkkk,
You choked off the surest of comboes,
but if you really loved me, you would have endured my triiiccckkk...."
Etc etc etc until the breakdown....
"One last wish for you-oo-oo,
One, more, trick for youuu-ooo-ooo!
Please make up your mind girl,
before I hope you
DOUBLECORK!"
Understand?
That breakdown always had a special place at Randy's...

this is completely based on how someone chooses to edit their sampler!
surely
making good use of the song is essential though

Dave C you're such an artist of the trick samplers! haha Though I have a question... Does the 'breakdown' include the massively awesome slow-mo action with insane single tricks? Because that's what I feel - from your samplers. Like spread your fire for instance w/ the very satisfying dbl twist slow-mos. Or is this independent of that?

I feel the same.

Both.
I like the idea of people showing what the can do if they really push that single move to the limits.
I like combos.

Like Shen said, it's really about making good use of the song
Choose a song that is strong by itself, then use your strongest tricks/combos for the moments with the most intensity.
I thought everyone did this? The samplers that have inspired me do
(i'm lookin at you NAN)
The breakdown in No World for Tomorrow is fantastic

I love the way Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt is used in Unveiled. The last minute is so action-packed because that's where the music changes/ where the vocals kick in. And the tricks are edited perfectly to match it.

Exactly. Unveiled set a new standard for samplers - that they were not just a showcase of tricks, but pieces of art in themselves
Greatest sampler ever made in my opinion. It's as good now as it was when it was released in 03
