What martial arts, do you think best suits tricking? Sport karate comes quickest to mind. Also do you do any martial arts? I was thinking about starting some but I dont really know what i want to go for.

You could have tkd where your domiated by kicks, sport karate where creative forms, weopons forms come in etc or capoeria where creative agility is one of the keys..

What props or crits do you have of different types?

I would say kendo or savate would be best for tricking. Akido is excellent too.

i wouldn't take a martial art to be better at tricking, i would take it because i wanted to learn that art.

but if you are going to take a martial art, the type isnt that important, just make sure you find a good school. the problem with taekwondo, karate and the like is that there are way to many institutions who care more about making money than teaching

sport karate is not a martial arts on its own..its a combo of styles.

the best styles for tricking are

capoeira
tkd
wushu

they arent nessisary for tricking or will they nessisarily speed up the process but they have a better chance of u speeding up learning basics and having them good. but not a gurentee...alot of great tricksters didnt even take a martial arts. so dont think of it as a requirement.

TKD.
Wushu is good but has different technique than most tricksters. So you will end up with different style than your average tricksters.
TKD is your pretty basic kicking martial art.
It will help you with stretching and core kicking technique.
I would recommend a traditional TKD if you can find one.
An old ITF school, the didn't change when ITF changed everything years ago. New ITF = lame. WTF = Olympic / Sport Taekwondo.
ITF is going to be more simular to Traditional Karate, but with high kicks.
It will build really good kicking technique and a strong foundation.
Examples: BUBBA. Team Love all go to the same studio actually, Ryan, Bubba and Mike.

Although it doesn't really matter. As long as they stress proper stretching and kicking technique it will work for tricks.

Do you have any idea what those martial arts are and how irrelevent they are to tricking?? obviously you are joking haha

Wushu, Capoeria, TKD ...Thats it.

TKD.
I would recommend a traditional TKD if you can find one.
If only it were that damn easy. The closest school to me is miles away and it's a joke of a Martial Arts dojo. It really pisses me off. I want a traditional school and I want to get my ass kicked by the instructors dammit! Maybe when I move this fall I can find a decent cheap one (finding A school won't be hard, since I'll be in a real city finally).

Yeah if the instructors can't destroy you don't go to that school. Breyk is right though take martial arts for martial arts, it will be helpful to your tricking as much as you allow it to be. Stretch, Kicks, the whole shabang. I have done Kempo, Kajunkenpo, and currently in Tu Kong, Kajunkenpo was pretty sweet for kicks. TKD would probably be the easiest to find though since they are everywhere but you might find a McDojo so choose wisely. Caopiera (sorry spelling lol) would I think be the best to assist tricking.

No. They're the same age. They branched off of each other. TSD has just maintained better tradition and will never be referred to as a sport. (disgusting word)

I have done caporeia before and got some of the basics down and added to tricking it formed quite well but it was too far for me to travel everyweek to keep taking part!

When looking at wushu guys they all seem so small haha, but great demonstration of flexibility. With tkd on different sites that i have visited of clubs or schools many of them seem to have different training sessions, well some have videos of what they do and a lot of them look too different like some stretch more and do a variety of stuff whilst others will look shit!

Fantastic post.

its like going into a hardware store and asking which screwdriver will be the best for hammering in nails. It can do the job, but its not what its designed for.

I took Tang Soo Do for a while and trained with a 7th degree black belt, it helps for kicks, but really if you want to get better at tricking then keep tricking
