Competition Format: FIRST TO TWO

ROUNDS: Flip of a coin will determine who goes first. Competition will be executed battle style like a sparring division by rounds where competitors will take turns executing their tricks. Competitors get one turn per round and are allowed one re-do for any missed trick/combo. Competitors will alternate going first for each round. One point will be awarded to the winner of each round. First competitor to two points wins the battle and moves to the next round.

RULES: All tricks regardless of discipline will be categorized into POWER MOVES or COMBOS categories. Power Moves are any single or double trick technique. Three (3) techniques or more performed are Combos. The first competitor of each round will set the tone by performing either a Power Move or Combo. The second competitor must match the category by performing a trick in the same category for his/her turn. This will allow judges to compare moves to moves and combos to combos. There are no limits and tricks from all disciplines are allowed including: martial arts, dance, breakdance, acrobatics, gymnastics, parkhour, free running, etc. No props will be allowed.

XMA Tricks Battle Finals: The final 6 competitors will go head to head with former XMA Tricks Battle Champions Matt Emig and Steve Terada in the US OPEN Night of Champions to be televised by ESPN2. Good luck!

Why will this be comedy? Sounds contrived but sadly much better than the online battle style we constantly see here.

yeah, this format actually works pretty well

they did this kind of format at a local tournament here last year, mike, crazy asian, matt federico, and matt emig competed in it

here's the footage:

the one thing i like better about the us open rules is that they separated the tricks into "combos" and "single moves" the competition they did here was just whatever you wanted to throw and the other person had to match it.
