Back when I had just learned of tricking and I was beginning my slow journey, I got my Asian friend (who had quite a bit of TKD experience) to learn tricking with me. I learned to backtuck before him, but when I told him that I wanted to learn to 540 (we used to call it a parafuso haha), he just said, "Oh, you mean this?"

BAMF!

In my face he just 540s like it's nothing. After that, he really didn't do much else. When I wanted to learn to btwist, he was almost doubling it without wanting to. When I started wanting jacknives, he jacknifed first try. Later that week, he was getting close to landing c720twists, snapuswipes, and c720twistswipes (?).

He's now "retired", but I'll always remember him as the bastard that never tried and got tricks on his first try.

scalco...

where to start?

well, me and mike tried to show him a tornado kick and he did a sideswipe

he got snapu's in a ridiculously short amount of time spent working on them

he also got aerial twists, and hyperswipes in the same day

pretty much any trick that mike would be working on (when we first started) scalco would land his first or second try

e.g.:
gainers, jacknifes, corks, scalco landed dbl corks first, hyper twists, hyper hooks

Ive always wondered how you guys felt about showing scalco these moves only to get dominated by him haha.
Now I'd say that you guys are all on super high levels though...

Volty, he is one of these bastards. His last example: We had a training the other day, and he tried to land cart doublefull on one foot to swingtrough.
After his next session, he sent me a cart doublefull st cork. Die

a lot of people tell me i progress quite fast. so here's my side of the story.

i dont stretch (unless its before a session) or condition at home, i just go in with set goals and a positive state of mind and always give something a shot. i see other people who spend way too much time working on the exactl same thing.. eg this guy who takes up the floor, to do 1 backhandspring. he has about 5 minute intervals of just standing there in his stupid set, just preparing to do it. i admit he does it quite clean and it just frustrates me that to this day, he still keeps doing that 1 bhs.

but anyways yea, if you wanna get good at tricks fast, just try shit and who knows, you may get close to landing it, then you get all full of energy n psyched and you attempt them again and probably land them that session :).

i progress pretty fast, i just do what davidm said. I dont go to the gym an think "ok today im gonna land a cheat1080 no matter how many times i try it" i just try random stuff and land some of it

Jun-27-08, 06:24 AM
same as davidm but also if some one shows me something i can usually get it 1st or 2nd try.. mike m and jester where trying pop3>s/t 720 kick and i got it my 2nd try.. most things that require flexibility are my only downfall.. i stretch 2wice a day but my flexibility increases about an inch a month its sad..

also DEVON HOLT IS TRICKING NOW?!?! OMG LOOKOUT EVERY SINGLE OTHER TRICKER! haha HE IS MY tumbling icon.. wow if he starts tricking he'll soon be the best.. im sorry.. but its just true..

sorry to say, but those weren't gms twists, they were cart w/t fulls

if you watch, his leg wraps behind his planted leg rather than swinging in front

does it really matter he learnt it in the space it takes peal and orange lol

yeah, cart w/t fulls are a hell of a lot easier to do than gms twists

in gms twists your leg kicks in front of the landing leg, which means you have to twist against the momentum of your kicking leg

in cart w/t fulls, your leg wraps behind you adding to your twist

it seems like a small difference in writing, but in application it's a huge difference

we watched kyle mcleans sampler together, then went and tricked, it was the first time we same anyone gms, so we said "scalco, try that masterswipe with no hands that kyle mclean did" and he did it

I don't think this is considered fast anymore haha. I learned 540 kicks in two days, aerials on my first try after I decided to stop pissing k slash off with cartwheels, I learned standing front flips in 2 days before I learned running ones, I learned websters and standing websters on the same day. I don't think though tbh my flip ones count, because websters and front tucks I got NO height on, I could just rotate like a motherfucker.

Aerials are easy, and 540 kicks just need good foot placement. I drilled basic kicks alot too so it's not like I done no work to get them, I mean I done them alotttttt. If I decided to actually dedicate myself to tricking I think I'd learn fast, but I'm just so lazy that once a week is enough for me :]

Jun-28-08, 05:05 PM
Haha I used to see shitloads of threads complaining about double leg problems even by more advanced tricksters.

Tygur
Jun-28-08, 07:35 PM
haha technically i did my first backflip first try (grass, no spotters or anything) but then I bailed the second one onto my neck and never tried again.

and i suppose the same way of thought, i got my btwist on the first try but then, actually i never tried again.

i did a sushi roll on accident a few times, way back before i knew it was even a trick (i think thats what its called, i was just fucking around really)

and then there was that time i got messed on a couple bottles of nyquil and tried my first wallflip and managed a ceiling flip, i guess it would be called. then passed out and didn't try again.

basically my entire tricking career before i quit was trying something one to 3 times and getting it, then saying "well i guess i can do that" and never trying again. the exceptions are the 540 and the tido which took me fking forever.

anyway i'm too fat to do it anymore but i'm losing weight and if i lose enough i'll try my hand at it again.
