Well I've decided to take some of Rudy's advice and go back and drill the basics. I fail at butterfly kicks now and I was wondering if I could get some help. I used to be a lot better at them, but I guess I kinda started half-assing the technique and it has hurt me, but any tips will be nice.

Your dip looks okay from what I can tell. The problem is the actual motion of the kick and putting your arms into it.

Kick your right leg BACK and UP; don't bring it in front of you until at least after you've taken off and are preparing to land.

And sort out what to do with your arms so that they help with your momentum. It's hard to explain in text, so I'd recommend looking up some wushu vids or tutorials.

Ok thanks. I've been wondering what to do with my arms for a while, but I will look at tutorials definitely.

doublepost: first leg needs to go up higher and more straight upish

You're lifting your chest up before you're kicking your leg up. You should lift both up at the same time or even the leg a little before if you wanted to get more inverted.

think of a butterfly, ur legs are one wing, ur todo and head are the other, and ur hips are the body, in fortunately ur feet wing is split in two and flaps twice, but in midair at the peak of the technique from an angle where u c the body, it looks like a butterfly if u think of it the way I said it. Arch your back some, the legs will go higher (firstt learn the real leg motion, u don't know it) and u will Have a nice u shape

Looks like you're sorta doing a lazy roundhouse. Make the leg go up...not around. Use your head/upperbody to do the flat spin of going "around".

When you're finishing your dip, and your right leg is going straight up behind you, continue to pull yourself to the left and up (while looking up) upon takeoff.

You'll get it dude, you're very close. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I can get my b.kicks back to where I want them with a little bit of time and some drilling. When I first started everyone said they were great and then I learned other stuff and kinda slacked on the technique. Hopefully if I drill hard and keep learning I may have a minisampler sometime in the near future.
