Is anyone here, from the UK, involved in training or other gym work? I just graduated from university today and I'm quite depressed, but in a good way (no emo). I've been considering gym work as a suitably wasteful next step.
I know there's one or two non-UK members who do this, and feel free to contribute, but specifically I'm wondering what about UK shit.

I don't look buff enough yet, I reckon - I don't think I could credibly do it until I'm mad swole.
I might open a gym or something, but I'd need to get a bit of money maybe.
fuck it, I'll just keep browsing for cheap crappy land somewhere and live out the rest of my days in peace

Yes, hopefully be getting employed in a gym in the next few days, get your certificate in gym instructing etc then see if you can get in a gym and let them train you to do the full personal trainer course for free for working for them for a while if that's what you want to do.

P.T.s Here in the UK are shit! Make sure you're not another! Go teach the truth to these un-knowledgeable cunts! I'm considering serving my sporting community / being a P.T. in the future, how was Uni?

how was Uni?
It was good, I miss it.
Yes they're all so expensive, it seems. You can get shitty gym instructor ones for a few £100 but for a full PT-level cert. it's more like £1-2000. Shit, the YMCA one is more like three thousand!
gayness.

All you need
Edit: I have my YMCA level 2 fitness instructor certificate and going into my 3rd year of Sport Science at Leeds Uni in sept. I'm hoping to do something similar, probably get my level 3 and charge £45 an hour lolz! :)

http://www.northernfitness.co.uk/ only useful if you're in the North though haha, it's not bad priced either, if you could get student discount you can do the whole personal trainer course for around £1000
Munks has the right idea haha, however I don't plan on doing normal personal training after uni unless I go to somewhere packed with rich people like beverly hills or hollywood and charge ridiculous amounts.

Who wants to pay £45 for a personal trainer?
Personal Trainers are the most useless thing on this planet right after investment bankers.
But well, there MUST be enough idiots who are willing to pay.
Else they'd figure that going to a sports club (for oly lifting f.e.) might cut it for just a few bucks each month.

hmm - I think what I should do first is get a shitty one (i.e. not a full PT thing) and work in a gym for a bit to see if I even like it at all. It would be gay to spend £1000's on a massive cert and then find out that it's totally crap.
Munks - have you used your level 2 cert for anything?
Thanks for the replies
PT is where the money's at, most gym instructors dont make enough being just a gym instructor and to earn abit more they do PT cuz it pays more

Where did you get you cert from, Munks?

For my degree (Sport Science) We had a module that included gaining a coaching certificate of some sort... and they gave us a list that the uni offered and one of them was the YMCA Gym Instructor Level 2 course... so i chose to do that... was only £90 coz they subsidized it. There was also random people that came in to do it that wernt students too... Maybe there will be some at any unis around where you live... they are held in other places too. My mate works for a leisure center and they sent him to a hotel in Sheffield for the course.
