burn more calories then you consume, although there are multiple ways to go about doing so.

Do exercise early in the morning and leave breakfast until an hour after your have finished workout. Because you haven't eaten yet the body takes energy from your body fat. If you don't have much body fat anyway it could start eating your muscle which is bad, but you can stop that by drinking some eggs beforehand or something.
I think Juji mentions burning fat somewhere in his articles, I'd read all his articles though, they're really good.

Are you struggling to lose weight? Does it seem like no matter what you do, you just can't get rid of excess body fat?

Multiply your weight by 12. That's your maintenance cals or the amount of cals you should eat to maintain that weight.
Subtract that number by 500 and that's how much you need to eat to lose weight.
Then eat balanced meals. Clean carbs and fat and protein.
visit forum.bodybuilding.com to get more information.
They have a section dedicated to it, and there's some good info in the stickies.

multiply my weight by 12 O.o..
so i should eat 1056\day cals to maintain my weight...
and if i wanna lose i should go down to 528 cals per day....:ogre::ogre::ogre::ogre::ogre::ogre::ogre:
thats total bull...
if you as a MALE with an above average physique go down to less then 1k cals per day (actually, above, below average, wouldnt matter), you'd like.. die from malnutrition, or end up like freaking gandhi or something...

A rule of thumb is a principle with broad application that is not intended to be strictly accurate or reliable for every situation. It is an easily learned and easily applied procedure for approximately calculating or recalling some value, or for making some determination.
It is also shit when the internet allows you to instantly calculate more complex estimations, e.g.

Well, I would tell him to write down everything he eats for a week and go from there, but I'm sure he wouldn't want to do that.
And I do believe internet BMI calculators are shit. According to them, all the fit kids on my football team are overweight etc..
Still, I did my best to point him on the right track. Don't really know what else to say.
That's how I lost weight anyways, so I'm talking from personal experience.

BMI = body mass index
BMR = basal metabolic rate
What are you going on about, boy?

I'm talking about BMI calculators. Those are inaccurate.

Do shit all the time, like crazy. And take a look at that counting calories thing, if you keep track of every calorie, your body isn't going to be like "I know that by all scientific standards I should expend my fat... but I know you want that hot body and you aren't getting it" Instead of eating 3 meals a day, eat 5 smaller ones (hell go to 8 smaller ones if you can do it convenientyl), then make sure you are getting at least 1800 calories.
If you don't get enough your body will just go into starvation mode, use muscle as fuel instead, then you will get frustrated stop dieting and your body will try to go back to its original weight and gain fat instead of that muscle, then you will become desperate and start cutting yourself and using a vacuum cleaner as homemade liposuction. Then you will go out to score crack to make the pain go away and end up broke and homeless. Of course this is just guessing from personal experience, and slightly off topic.
Anyways, break down those meals into some decent proportion, like say 45% carb, 30% protein, 25% fat. Anyways, you want to create a calorie deficit, however much you eat, you want to burn 1000 calories more (I'm guessing you are gonna use one of those BMI calculators and just eat the basal metabolic amount). This is the max safe weight loss. 1000 calories is 7000 calories a week, and there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. It may seem kind of slow, but if you're anything like me, you won't do it, then remember back when you didn't and realize if you had, you would be at the perfect weight by then lol. This way you'll keep most of your muscle and lose weight. Also drink LOTS of water and sleep lots too. Don't pee your bed though.
To sum it up, if you are happy, eating well, sleeping, and excercising, the fat will just fall off.

I have twice, but I guess I should read them again a few times.
I didn't pay attention to fat burning so much as I've always had a high metabolism and its never been a problem.
Thanks for the advice.

What does meal frequency have to do with anything?

Fat cannot turn into muscle and vice versa. There's a sticky about it (myths one).

Well the reason I advised increased meal frequency is because metabolism slows down 3-4 hours after eating (can go into a catabolic state too, breaking muscle up for fuel), and if you are eating 3 meals a day and awake 16 hours (people usually avg 8 hours of sleep), then thats 1 meal every 5.33 hours. The real significance is in making sure you aren't in the catabolic state when you excercise, and replenishing a decent amount of carbs after the workout. Number of meals doesn't really matter if there is snacking going on... but its a lot easier for me to say it that way, sorry if I wasn't clear.

Can't find the study but the whole metabolism slow-down was dismissed. Eating 3 meals mean that they'll be bigger than 6, so digestion would take longer. Catabolism isn't the end of the world and your body isn't dumb, it's compensated with higher anabolism when you eat later to even it out.
and if you are eating 3 meals a day and awake 16 hours (people usually avg 8 hours of sleep), then thats 1 meal every 5.33 hours.
Again, the bigger your meals the longer the digestion. Remember that when food is digested all of it isn't going to be burned directly. Your body can only absorb a few grams of protein each hour so when you hit your next meal (hopefully) you'll allready have aminos running around your system.
The real significance is in making sure you aren't in the catabolic state when you excercise
Pre-workout nutrition is important yes, but meal frequency doesn't apply to this unless there's a big gap between your last meal and your training.

http://www.stepsweightloss.com/2008/05/27/does-frequent-snacking-speed-up-metabolism/ , but it says that the study was performed in australia, and I also have an IQ study here that says australians are stupid: http://www.sabahan.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/800px-AverageIQ-Map-World.gif . I think this leads us to one conclusion, sorry, if you weren't born with a high metabolism, better luck next life.

Holy crap dude, whats your problem? I was providing satire on the lack of solid information from the scientific community. If you're mad about the being born with a high metabolism, I don't see what you have to worry about if thats you in your sig. And if you're angry about the australian thing, the IQ map does that because the aboriginals distort the figures. Jesus Christ, you double posted. :O
