I'm the opposite of it, but I lift hardcore and eat well. Is being inactive - ie sitting in front of my computer or on the couch smoking with friends most of the time - going to affect my progress in weightlifting ?

Smoking might.
If you lift intensely the rest will probably do you good though.

smoking wont effect your weight lifting, but it will affect tricking, and sitting on the couch all day yea that cant be good for tricks either

I feel like I have to constantly be randomly sprinting, dancing, drilling kicks, shadowboxing, and sometimes just plain flipping out until I break a sweat in order to keep my bodyfat low. If I stop doing so for a couple of months, my abs stop showing and I get fat. This seems to happen despite my diet (eating to gain weight vs low carb diet).
Therefore, in my experience, it seems that one does have to be active a lot in order to keep fit.

Your diet is too high in calories then, regardless of it being low carb. That is, if you are too worried about your six pack but you are one of those skinny guys that worry too much about keeping your abs.

Well, I'm trying to gain weight but I'm not particularly big just yet, so I guess that makes me a skinny guy. And the visibility of my abs seem to be the easiest way to gauge how fat I'm getting, so I guess that makes me worry about keeping my abs.
I discussed it with Honken and we think it might be water retention, since my definition decreased suddenly during the last week or two.

How do you expect to gain weight when you're worried about losing your abs?

Well, this probably won't be the best explanation, but the basic idea is that by eating enough to increase my metabolism (such that the energy I'm taking in doesn't need to be stored as fat), I will use up the fat I already have along with the rest of the carbs, protein, etc. that I'm taking in to help build muscle.

Thanks for the replies.
And darkxacred just don't be a pussy and eat a shitload and lift "until your eyes explode" for a while and then you'll worry about getting the little fancy abs you want.

Some active recovery can help you recover quicker by getting extra blood pumping to your used muscles without fully working them.

Smoking clearly kicks ass, if Sarge from Quake does it, everyone should.

No, sitting does not interfere with athleticism.

Smoking introduces a lot of free radicals and toxins into the body though, so it helps if you are a doctor who knows how to operate on yourself for any required surgeries, how to create healthy foods and antioxidant and deoxification remedies. Plus, if you have cool powers and can create zombies in case you die later.
