im hearing a rumor sport karate might be in the olympics, ive heard this for a while but there are plans for a demonstration in 2012 olympics and then 2016 for it to be added. And this would be very interesting since theirs talk of taking tkd out of the 2012 olympics. im not exactly sure what aspect would be in, if its forms weapons and sparring. but i did hear a while back about forms.

a sport karate person who i dont wanna name, mentioned sumtin about sport karate being in the olympics a few years back but nothing ever came of it. then my friend messages me about it a few days ago,how her coach is involved. apparently this is why wako and iska merged.

which makes this interesting and sad at the same time. its not like tkd where theirs a pretty strict set up of just fighting and to get to the olympics u win states then nationals then olympic qualifiers. sure judging is a bit subjective at the times, but i doubt tkd is anywhere near as bad as sport karate forms.

sport karate will never be the same. not only the level of competition but the amount of spectators and ppl that care.

well its a 8 year process so first their has to be a demonstration..no gurentee of it being in their in the next 8 years. tkd has 2 demonstrations before it was admitted.

yaa yaa... sport karate has just been boring me recently... that was the first tournament i fought in like 2 years... i dont plan on ever competing creative/extreme again either...
Sport karate will never make it into the Olympics. If the WKF couldn't get in in the past decades (they have been trying since the late eighties), sport karate has no chance. And as for muay thai, also a no-no, since there was some talk about removing even boxing due to "safety concerns" :eh: With that reasoning, MT will never be in either.

well u can argue mma has had only 1 death versus boxing has like a death a year, im not sure how many official deaths have occured in muay thai in american but i bet its pretty damn low as well.
Those deaths happened in pro boxing, in amateur you have to wear headgear as well, and if that is considered unsafe, muay thai with all the kicks knees and elbows doesn't stand a chance in my opinion.

No punches to the head makes sense. Kyokushinkai does the same thing.
It's full contact sparring, and they're not wearing padded gloves. Punches to the head would result in a TON of cut-injuries and possibly gouged eyes once in a while.
Legs are longer, and since they're the lower part of the body, they take longer to reach the face. So while you can KO people with kicks, it would only work something along 1 out of 5-6 times (random number), whereas punches would work a lot more often.
Summed up: Injury prevention.

just give them full finger-enclosed gloves and headguards. Problem solved. Then they MIGHT just have their hands up in a guard for once, and it'd require a higher level of skill because people have more attacking tools.
