Today, I was in the gym, when I was doing these, my shoulders started to hurt. The pain was in the frontal shoulder area, around where the pecs meet with the delts. I was wondering if anyone ever had this problem, and if yes, what did u do? Thanks.

Why are you using a wide grip? What do you think it yields that a narrower grip does not?

The answer is nothing except reduced leverage, which is mitigated by the reduced ROM. Stop using them -- even more so if you're encountering pain while performing them. Use a regular or narrow grip, instead.

You don't have to follow the training plan like 1000%.

Tweak it, find what seems to work for you, everyones different,

*Wide grip pullups are king though :D

Despite the fact that the question has been answered correctly I'm waiting for more useless comments by people saying to do wide grip...

Well, what is the dividing point for a narrow grip versus a wide? Wider than shoulder width, perhaps?

Personally, in pull ups I prefer a grip as wide as my shoulders, never been a fan of a very close grip or very wide grip *death*

Close grip chin-ups have always been my favourite. I never do pull-ups though (behind the head), as they've always been uncomfortable.

What's the difference between "normal" and "wide" though? Shoulder-width and 1.5 times shoulder-width?

...You're 6 feet 3 1/2 inches, and 170lbs. Nothing has worked for you yet.

I can have someone hold a 5lbs dumbbell in their hand, and have them twist their hand back and forth real fast and make them feel the burn. That doesn't mean it's a good exercise.

The only thing wide grip does is tearing your scapulas off.

Narrow or wide is merely a visually appreciable distance beyond shoulder-width, which is the normal base line. In other words, you know it when you see it.

I've seen people do this in my gym. :agony:

You can use a wide-grip for this.

Oh shit.

I didn't know pullups were behind the neck!

Oh hell no, i wasn't talking about them, i'd have to use the assisted chinup machine to pull sets of those off.

I thought chin ups meant palms facing towards you and pull ups thought palms facing away, my bad >.<

As for counterfeit, when i say they work for me (wide arm, palms facing away chinups), i mean that in the sense that i feel like i've doubled my strength (in some exercises that is), and put on 10kg/22lb in the past 5 months working out. Now while it definetly isnt 10kg muscle, it's 10kg of mass nethertheless, and i can physically see an increase in muscle size.

Everyones different, each to their own.

That's generally correct.
