View Full Version : How many push-ups can you do?
sir tomtom
Jul-30-08, 07:30 PM
all in a row with no breaks. im just curious. and i kinda want to see how i compare.
im up to about 60.
and no shitty half-assed push ups!
Skippy
Jul-30-08, 07:35 PM
Why do you want to compare? being about to do million trillion push ups doesn't generally show strength, more so endurance. I can do 45, but at about 30 I start finding them noticeably alot harder, the last 3 kill me. This could either be because I'm a faggot, or because I have only really ever trained in low rep training for the majority of my training.

I don't know.
All the hardcore people will say this.

Jul-30-08, 08:41 PM
Good! but you need both, flexibility + backflips = Orgasmic X-outs and Flashkicks.

I don't know.
If I had to guess I would say I can probably do about 20 good pushups.
Impressed...?

nope
52 is my record if I remember correctly.

about 75 and 90 at my fitness prime..
My all-time record was 108, but that was when I weighed around 60 kg and only did bodyweight exercises.
I can currently do around 80, I believe. I can do 50 with ease.
I'm a lot stronger and more explosive in proportion to my body now though, than when I only did bodyweight stuff. (So take that, bodyweight-lovers.)
My reppage has gone down, but my explosiveness has upped a looot.
Ernest
Jul-31-08, 07:24 AM
I used to able to do around 50-60 just under 2 years ago, but strength has not increased proportionally with my bodyweight recently.
I just tried now.
I did 20 and decided to stop for the benefit of my lungs.
My stamina is hideous also.
I do lots of push ups and sit ups and drink a lot of juice

Not necessarily. I could do sidesplits way oversplit without getting my xout further than a 90 degree split.

Because you're scared your upsidedown. LALALALA.
Eh, I could do around 45-50 within a minute back when I timed myself. Other than that, I've never actually tried to see how many I could do all at once. I usually train in reps.
I do not really believe I'm scared when I'm upside down. Really.

my all time maximum was 100 (maybe a few less due to shitty form at end) in TKD class haha. I did train them alot though. i could do about 70 from cold anytime. not now though
I do a lot of push ups and sit ups and drink a lot of juice

I can do 85 and am working back up to 100. I really never try and go past 100, I just get up to it, get lazy about it for a while, then work back up to it again.

Jul-31-08, 10:41 AM
I used to train with a guy who did 110 on average. His all time record was 124 so I said I want half that.
My all time record from then on was 75 :)

My all time record is 28.

Jul-31-08, 01:38 PM
70 was the furthest I got. I could probably continue more, but I didn't want to lol. I just wanted to see if I could meet the requirements for the norwegian marines or military or w/e...can't remember now. The minimal requirement was indeed 70 push ups...I never really bother with pushups anymore, so I might have dropped down to 50 or something...

Jul-31-08, 02:13 PM
i can do about 700, but itll take me like a week.
i used to do abwt 70-80 at tkd. now i could do 50 if i pushed it alot haha.

i don't even do them now haha.
planche ftw
Not necessarily. I could do sidesplits way oversplit without getting my xout further than a 90 degree split.
Haha yeah I'm about 2 feet away from sidesplit and can x-out wider than most flexible kicking tricksters I see >_>

The most pushups I did(and that's counting the good ones where your body is like a mili-metre away from the ground), is about 23. I've never taken exercises such as pushups and sit ups seriously in my life and I don't think I ever will because there are far better exercises out there.

A few months ago the most I could do in a row was 100. I have no idea how many I could do now. For some time I was regularly doing between 500-1000 in a day, but I've been slacking since then.
Why do people do so many pushups :S
I can see the fun in pull ups, I do quite a few of them, but I just never got the push up thing..

It just a competitive thing, like "I have moar Pokemans than you, so ha!"
I also guess if someone likes push-ups, and want to add them to some sort of routine, they'd want to find out what a "good" number is so that they can have some sort of goal.

Pushups are the most comprehensive excercise you can do, they work you're entire body with good form (keeping legs and ankles straight, abs and lower back both tensed, chest, traps, and obviously triceps are the main thing. Biceps come into play if you are doing them slowly and methodically, and shoulders are also key)
I went to a gymnastics camp when i was in HS ad there was a dude who was the ex head coach of the soviet union. He said the only excecise necessary for gymnastics is pushups, it can give you all the strength you need for any gymnastics skill if done enough! There ya go HEZ!
I can do like 100

Yes because doing pushups enables you to do iron crosses without any practice.

Keep counting and you'll lose the hair on your chest, it happened to a friend of mine.
I train to complete muscular failure, rest 2-3 minutes and then go again. It doesn't matter how many YOU can do because the other guy you're comparing with may be twice as heavy and need to be pushing a lot more weight etc. If YOU'RE training to YOUR maximum, then you're gonna be the winner. The winner of chest hair.
Comparison threads are like being back in year 4 and chatting in the toilets like, "OMG LOLZ, ma wileh is biggah than urs lolz!". It's fun but a little homosexual and there's always a guy with a bigger junk than yourself.

JON YOU MORAN
the obvious meaning of my comment was that I personally can't do any so complained about them as an exercise.
Jeeazzz.
Instead of pushups today I did several sets of various grip pullups then loads of those crowstand (whats it called when your knees are on your elbows) push up to handstand things until muscle failure which involved landing on my face a lot thus making the training more manly and thus more productive.
Oh and finally, in the soviet union ups push you!
Also finally, what's the head coach of the soviet union hahA? Head coach of soviet union muffin toasting? EHH?

People need to start discussing how many glasses of squats they drank after their milk sessions instead of talking about pushups.

"pushups make pushups"
120 pushups within 2 minutes is the most ive done. that was a competition in boot camp. i was 155 lbs..i'm now 160 and stop at 100. just for fun and games :P
I once did 70 when I didn't know much about training, now I don't know or care.

Yes because doing pushups enables you to do iron crosses without any practice.
Well, if you did enough of them you could get the strength to learn Iron Cross as a skill rather than building into it strength wise. So yes, you'd need practice on the form/skill, but yes, if you did enough pushups you could hold an iron cross

I was under the impression once past a certain rep number that you were simply building endurance. Maybe if you could do 20 push ups, every push up taking 10 minutes to complete =p

19, I just got a fitness assessment when I joined a gym, and it was a really cute little female trainer to boot, very embarassing, especially when I collapsed in the plank afterwards... and then she did some stupid swiss ball thing after making me do the chest press machine, that just seemed backwards.
She said I had really bad muscular endurance and too little muscle for my height. Apparently I've got 15% body fat... she said it was okay for me to gain some but I'd rather lose some while gaining muscle :(
I do 20 every day before going to bed. I will test to see how many i can do later today.
I'm not very good at pushups.. 50 is my max I think, I've never really pushed it further
How many 1 handed can you make? 6 is my max hahah

Alucard's statement confused me, do pushups make you lose the hair on your chest, or win chest hair?
The thing is, your muscles respond to your choices, your junk does not.

50 perfect form
the more powerful you are, the easiest is to perform them
es:
your weight is 100kg, and you bench press 100kg.
In a pushup you push 60% of your weight (60kg) which is 60% of your max strength.
If you increase your max bench press to 200kg, you will use only 30% of your strength every pushups.
i can probley do 100 lol
but its stupid cuz after i cant move my arms lol
but yea 20 is the best but do them qiuck i mean REALLY!!! FAST

In karate we do 40 V-up Broomstick twist hybrid things then 40 pushups and we go all the way to 0 by fives. I usually can't do the 40, 35, or 30 but I do them for the entire time until we switch.
