the following is in 3 sets of 8 reps:

Bench 170-175 (depends on the day)
Squat 155
Deadlift 135

If you're a beginner, this is to be expected, since the bench is much easier to learn than a proper squat or deadlift.

If not: oh my.

edit: read the other thread...oh my, you're screwed =(

Not really, just stop training like an idiot and get going.

Yeah, sounds like you're pretty messed up. You should go see a doctor.

Rippetoe's Starting Strength is not 5x5.

I think he meant a variation. Don't powerlifters usually follow a 5x5 routine?

Not particularly. They use all types of routines. The majority probably use WSB or Sheiko templates.

Seriously, I don't understand how so many people deadlift so little, even with NO concept of form. Unless you're comatose, anyone who even resembles something near average should be able to lift more than a 135lbs barbell for reps without trying. Hell, my 125lbs girlfriend deadlifted 135lbs just for fun the first time I took her to the gym.

So I conclude that you are either:

A) Not pushing yourself near as hard as you could be

or

B)comatose

Maybe you're wearing yourself out on the bench, making you squat and deadlift less? :eh:. Try starting with DL's and squats and bench last, see how it goes...although I doubt it will make a really big difference.

And are your maybe referring to stronglifts 5x5? Not Starting strenght by rippetoe...

Even on my best days my 38 kg deadlifts seem very heavy. Yet squats with the same weight is way easier. I think it's probably form though.

im exactly the opposite, my deadlift is the highest, bench is the lowest

i weigh 185 lbs at 6'1
dl - max was 300, and that was a while ago, not sure what it is now
squat - never maxed, but i can get a couple reps of 225
bench - 185

what hurts me the most on squats is i think my form, like most trickers i have bad ankles, and that combined with long legs makes it hard for me to keep from leaning forward when i squat

Yes, reverse the order and decrease reps from 8 to like 3-5 and see what happens to the magnitude of your lifts

your right it may not be ripptoes, its a 5 x 5 though, the first day i do squats, bench, and rows, then the second day i do squats, military press (or i can sub for incline bench), and deadlifts.. etc.

and i KNOW that my form isn't bad. and i am pushing myself...

i'll post a picture of my physique and you tell me if there's something wrong, because i certainly don't look too new to working out (i think)

yes that's the one! what are your stats using that one?

ButtHash Hero
Aug-04-08, 07:58 PM
squat is 85/95/105/115/125
Bench is 75/85/95/105/115
Row is 55/65/75/85/95
M press is 35/45/55/65/75
deadlift 60/70/85/95/105

For 2x 8 DB curls i use 15's ( i suck)
And im still trying to figure out why tricep extensions aren't working for me. So....

(i've done this for about two weeks)

haha, crap.

I can squat 100 and deadlift 110 kg, but can't bench more than 60. It get's even worse with military press, 34kg. I can do 15 chin-ups at 76kg BW. My upper body sucks.

generalbbb
Aug-05-08, 07:12 AM
i can do about 15 pullups with a 15 pounds weight held between my feet. my military sucks though, i can only do 100 pounds (3 sets of 8)

You don't look like you work out, you just look like what a normal thin teenager should look like. Because of that, you may just not have the coordination to pull using all the muscle groups that should be yet. Who knows.

I still believe that you're capable of lifting more, and that your body could be pushed harder, whether it feels that way or not. Intensity is something that needs to be learned for some people.

Only because i have limited amount of weights at home. And i think i did something to my Knee. :agony:

Besides i started like two weeks ago, breh.

Shaedar
Aug-06-08, 02:57 PM
100kg. Not that it's much, but I feel good about it. VERY good. Maybe even too good :agony:

YES. all the way down to elbow lockout, all the way up so my entire chin is ABOVE the bar. with a dumbbell between my legs. 15 times.

do i really look like an average thin teenager? i thought i broke free from that =[

i used to weight 140 same height. i thought i made progress T_T

ButtHash Hero

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't go all the way down in a pull up. just enough so you are extended but not relaxed. but that is just how i learned and do them. plus i do them uber slow. like 5 sec up and down.

with most exercises you want to the eccentric to be controlled, and the concentric to be explosive. that means down without just dropping, and up as fast as you can.

The average seems to be more like this nowadays:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b252/counterfeitsoda/linemensandkneel.jpg

But anyways, if you used to weigh 140, and you now weigh 170, then you have made progress. But I'd say 170 is about an average weight for someone your height who isn't a fatass. But 30lbs is definately a decent difference, add 30 more and you'll definately be above most people.
