A bunch of short videos that teach you the important lifts for explosive power and strength.

I think Chicanerous posted this a while ago.

Definitely worthy of a re-post though.

I probably have posted that, but I'm sure others have to -- though not in a while.

I didn't find those videos to be particularly useful. If you already know what the lifts look like, they are a bit too general, IMO.

Short of finding a real coach, the best thing to do is to watch elite lifters lift to understand how the movements look. Slow motion is a great idea here. Then, read comprehensive descriptions of what goes in the lifts, so that you understand them on a technical level. (Something like Drechsler's The Weightlifting Encyclopedia is good for this.) More slow motion video -- even frame by frame -- is excellent here as well. Then, read accounts by experienced lifters about how they set-up and how it feels to lift. Finally, just get out there and practice, practice, practice on videotape. Analyze yourself, reread, and keep adjusting your form until you can lift mighty pretty.

That's what I did, at least, and it has turned out pretty well. I would have much rather have found a coach though.

Also, a huge part of performing the Olympic lifts well is having sufficient flexibility in all the right areas. Trickers should have an edge here as far as the legs go, but the shoulders and upper back will probably need work. It's also good to learn a wide variety of weightlifting-specific drills and assistance exercises, which will help you work on portions of the movements without having to concentrate on everything else at the same time.

I should have put quick referrence in the title instead. I think for a lot of people finding an actual coach is pretty hard to find in areas were olympic lifting aren't as popular or common compared to other sports.

That coach sure does like to brag about his athlete...

Every other sentence:

"Matt is the strongest 18 year old"

"Matt is better than everyone else in the country"

"Matt is a future olympian"

"Matt has incredible strength"

"Matt has been training harder than anyone since he was 13"

There's more of this kind of related shit than there is explanation and analysis of the lifts.

Chicanerous is right though... just watch real lifters on youtube and study it yourself. That is also how I did it. Don't listen to the people that say you need to find a coach to learn the lifts... that's just not true...

Good point.

Also, Matt didn't make it to this year's Olympics. :eh:

I guess this helps to see what the lifts look like and how to do them on a basic level, but other than that it didn't really help much.

I liked the warm-up and plyometrics videos though.

It only takes some reading and practice to be able to do them yourself, assuming you dont want to compete.
