I could see butterfly twist type skills being used in gymnastics.

I've seen a couple in mens routines before. I don't think any of them were extremely serious competitions though. There was one that was like only the floor routine, and the guidlines were fairly lose, with either celebrities, or the audience judging the routine I think. I forget what it was called, it's been years ago.

yeah I've seen the occasional btwist in a routine.

Because tricking moves aren't in gymnastics guidelines, its not a free for all where you can do what you want.

ARGHH!!!:ogre: WHY DON'T GYMNASTS DO MARTIAL ARTS TRICKS IN THEIR ROUTINES!!!!???:ogre:

I KNOW IT MAKES ME TEH ANGRY :ogre::ogre:

haha of course they're not gonna do tricks.

Though it'd be cool if they did slightly more inventive stuff, but their difficulty requirements basically mean that theres no point, and they dont get anything extra for doing something new (they get points taken away for stuff thats not in their moves list).

I'd like to see more aerials/brandys as transition moves. I mean they're doing r-off double fulls, they may as well fflip-stepout brandy-double full, ala sessh haha

Axe2aerial stuff should be included. It'd be awesome.

Quality post Andy. Only thing I can add is that I see a lot of barani transitions. Check 1:40 (lulz at nickelback soundtrack)

thanks man, i wrote it with my g/f who's been a gymnast for over 12 years, her dad is a coach and her sister is also a gymnast. She knows her stuff

we had a massive debate the other night over whether its better to do *slightly* easier moves cleanly or be able to just about pull off harder moves, because after watching some of the mens events, there were people doing the vault landing 2.5 fulls landing perfectly and getting 14's, and someone then lands a triple with two massive steps after underrotating the flip and gets a 16.

I'm one of those people who will always want quality regardless of difficulty. It was an awesome conversation we had haha. She summed it up best though: "you're like that because you trick, I'm a gymnast"

I've noticed I like a lot of older gymnastics videos as well. While it doesn't have the extreme difficulty that routines have nowadays, some of them are so creative it's fucking crazy.

I would think the opposite would be true, gymnasts work hard as hell to make their moves crisp and clean, while the typical tricker says they can do a trick just because they happen to land on their feet, even if it is ugly as hell. Especially when it comes to backyard trickers.

Gymnasts do work hard to make their moves crisp and clean, but its the difficult ones that we're pushed to make clean. Also because of how routines are marked, you always want the harder moves.

Edit: Also what I meant by Andy thinking the way he does because he tricks is that there are no guidelines or boundrys for tricking, where as in gymnastics theres rules and certain moves that HAVE to be performed at certain levels.

That is awesome on so many levels...

And Andy, don't gymnasts tend to put harder moves into their routine to get a higher initial score?
