Hey im new to tricking (been practiscing about 2 months or so) and ive already learnt the front flip and am working on the back flip, side flip and butterfly kick. I can also wall spin (which i learnt from freerunning).

I seem to have a problem with the butterfly kick in that i dont get horizontal enough when doing the kick. I have watched many tutorials and I obviously dip and kick my back leg hard up. when doing this I also throw the rest of my body up as from what ive heard every trick is based around height. However, this only seems to make me go horizontal. Any advice would be much appreciated, cheers.

(Oh i also forgot to mention ive just started doing capoeira and have been doing it for about 3 months so that should definatly help too. I do about 3hrs and a half a week.)

my best advice for goin horizontal is to open ur chest (pop it out) and even go as far as arching ur back. a lil trick that helps is to try to reach on teh side and around u with your upper body. if it doesnt work, ill make a in depth tutorial...i teach kung fu and most of the tutorials out there dont go to specific on even the most basic moves.

let me no if it helps and if u got any questions

Thanls for the advice, Ive seen many many tutorials but not one seems to make it clear whether trying to keep the legs straight will help with horizontalness. I just tried using straight legs in my Bkick and i think this helped me to get more horizontal. Is that correct or are straight legs just for form?

And yeah ill work on opening me chest out

Although I wouldn't advise it, Jumping backwards would achieve the same thing. I would only do this to get used to being horizontal, as it will kill your height.

Ok i will give these tips ago and have a look at the website. Btw, i was also wondering whether i should attempt a flash gainer as i reckon i could make it over and i feel fairly confident about doing the move as unlike with backflips you get a lot of momentum from the jstep, kicking your leg and throwing your arms up so yeah what do you think? is it a fairly ok move to attempt?

yeah thats true...hmm ill see how it goes. I might try it in the gym and then see how that feels.
