Erm ive looked at about 10million tutorials for this but none say what i should be doing with my head when you kick high into the kick/twist. Does the head stay where it is and is it the power of the legs that allows you to land the trick or does moving the head help you to get more height.

The problem with me is everytime i go for a bkick i lift my head up and so my upperbody goes up making me get less horizontal so should i just leave my head where it is and just use my legs?

Thanks :)

p.s sorry it was lengthy, im crap at condensing down my words lol

fling your head up.

for b kick - try to keep your head at a 45 degree angle looking opposite the way you are going

I'm just guessing but you might just be staying relatively upright out of fear. Don't worry about crashing your bkicks, the worst that can happen is you go horizontal, you actually bkick and you crash on your side knocking the wind out of you or something like that.

Video?

Kick your back leg harder.
Sacrifice height for horizontalness for now at least.
Dip lower.

fling your head up.

You better not be serious because that's one of the worst things you can do in a butterfly move besides not dipping or kicking your back leg up.

For both bkick and btwist you want your head and feet to be high. It's not just one or the other. If you head is high and you're still not parallel to the ground when you kick/twist then your legs simply aren't being lifted high enough. Don't make one or the other lower just to get parallel. That'll make your bkick/btwist low and ugly, not to mention harder to land for the twist.

B-twist> Watch footage of someone who does it good, B-twist was the first trick i landed and it was from a video tutorial from tegashi, I just watched his lead in and twist over and over then went outside and tried in went home watched it another few times went out tried what i had observed over and over again untill i finally was landing it.

Also you can obtain tricks without tutorials, Watch people, Observe see where they look put there amrs and legs what areas swing or twist. its a really efficient way to get an idea of how the trick works.

Haha your head isn't meant to be high in a butterfly kick. It should be in line with your horizontal body. Your feet on the other hand do have to be above your waist and head. Infact, good butterfly kicks should have the feet well above the head. You don't need a lot of flexibility for butterfly kicks. Just good timing and learning to drive your waist upwards allowing your feet to be above your head.

And about the borderline between a good butterfly and aerial, for the butterfly kick, it SHOULD be horizontal. As long as it's in between horizontal and 45 degrees downward, it's a good butterfly kick.

This is true, your waist & chest should be horizontal to the ground in a b-kick your feet higher than them, Your head can be pulled up above your chest and waist for a really opened effect but i recommend you concentrate on getting horizontal, Then feet(legs) getting higher than your body. After that work on how ever you want it too look.

I basically reinforced what Ewasiuk said so my post will end here.
Good luck

It doesn't matter in my opinion haha.

I mean head positioning is no where near as important as lifting the lifting leg up really high and hard etc.

If you watch my video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IUhVVsXnjE) my first B-kick is one of the best I have recorded. I have one problem there that I put my head a bit up. You can get some good parts I did there...
But if you check in that video at time 0.15 (going "frame by frame") you will see that my right leg is over my head. Of course I did NOT a perfect B-kick, but I am learning as you are. And I got my answer to that here:

http://www.club540.com/trick/butterfly-kick (Shows me I didn't do that bad)

Then if you are also afraid of falling in the B-kick (which you shouldn't) you can see when I start with my B-twist progressions how I fall. Some falls might hurt more than expected, but as soon as you start seeing that it is not that bad, you encourage yourself to keep on trying...

Also watch this: http://www.club540.com/trick/butterfly-twist
Helps to see it in slow mo and normal speed.

Do you have a gym where to practice or you have to practice on grass?

Well hope this helps

B-kick's don't need big threads of confusion, Get a good lead in(set) , Watch someone who does it good, copy them. Have the b-kick!

Exactly, it's such a simple move haha.

Do your btwist like a bkick.

Instead of trying it like a separate move, just build upon what you can do pretty well.
Go into the move, thinking bkick, ==> do a bkick(btw, do you see how in your bkick your arms are open and out? thats a good thing) then wrap your arms and twist.

Don't try a btwist, don't think about trying a btwist, yet, do a bkick then wrap.

Do you kinda understand what im saying?

Forgot one more thing about head placement in a bkick haha.

Just look neutral. Don't look up or don't look down because that will make your head either go up or down too much.

wow thanks for all the advise and so quickly too! I went out and tried a btwist last night. Im in florida on holiday but determined to trick lol. I think i need to work on twisting vertically first (without any btwist setup) as im not used to it! Im more used to flips and stuff. The ones i tried last night were like 90 degree twists but thats only cos i have fear atm and therefore don't want to wrap. When i get home ill try it onto my mat which will be way better or in the local gym. Thanks

Oh yeah atm i am practicing on grass but when i get home i can launch myself into this matt i have and try the gym.

Ok this may sound gayy to a lot of the better trickers but i have just improved my bkicks by like a million times thanks to your help and i am now the happiest man.

I realised i was actually concentrating on the kick so much to get height and horizontal, instead of swinging my arms across and behind me enough and then taking off (basically my timing and what i was concentrating on most was screwed up) So yeah ill post a vid when i get home in miserable england.

Thanks a million :)

Ok i saw the new vid. And yeah it is a lot better. The problem is i get scared when i try and go 360 parallel to the ground and so i bail out of it.
