oka so i recently started tricking and im havin the problem most noob trickers have....landing a backflip..(although ths is not gunna be a fear thread)
..without goin into to much detail ill jus say it is not possible for me to get a spotter or a tramp(oline) or any of tht and i crash everytym i try it...:dead:
so ive been readin a couple gymnastics forums and many of them say its possible to get over backwards fear using this basic progression....
bridge>back walkover>back handspring>backflip
anybody did ths or have any idea if ths works??

I was in the same predicament when I learned the backflip.
Get some pillows, pile them up outside, attempt backflips into them. Just put down enough that you cover the possible landing site and do a few test jumps into them to make sure they'll break your fall adequately. You'll get it eventually, just focus on doing it correctly and try to land on your feet, or at least your knees. Once you're comfortable with that, move onto the grass.
I actually followed the handspring to backflip progression at first, but I DO NOT recommend it. It will cause a lot of problems, the largest of which is that you'll get used to jumping backwards instead of straight up, which will pretty much guarantee you'll land on your head.

see the thing is i already tried tht and for sum reason right after i get over i open my tuck and land on my face.....and if i try to keep the tuck i somehow knee myself in the face wen i land...and it hurts preety bad.....i mean i can almost land it if i jump backwards and look to the side while flipping....but somehow im guessin thtz not the safest way to backflip...i thnk its somesort of bckflip fear tht i cant look back while flippin..
did learning BHS make your backflip come easier?

anybody did ths or have any idea if ths works??spotters aren't needed, personally I think they can be helpful, but using one too often cant cause dependency.. i/e there are girls at my gym that can do backtucks and handspring nearly perfect but still want a spotter when doing them or else they feel uncomfortable. I've never been spotted.

I do better without a spotter. If I have a spotter I'm afraid I'm going to hit them by mistake, so I bail. Without a spotter I can make it around no problem.
I guess my point is that you just have to try a couple different methods and find what makes you comfortable. That's 80% of what the trick is about in my opinion. Having the confidence mentally to be able to extend fully, throw those arms straight up and stall so you don't tuck too early. The other 20% is just getting a feel for how long you have to stall and when to tuck/release. It's chicken and egg though, as if you don't have the confidence then you can't learn the technique and if you don't know the technique you don't have the confidence.

Have you actually watched any tutorials for the back tuck?
If you follow all the steps, you will at least land on your knees. If you're landing on your face, you're not following directions properly.

oka so i tried it on my bed and im landin on my knees but finaaly i can keep my head straight...although wen i try to do it on grass i pussy out....maybe cuz all the crashes i had be4 on grass :dead:
and if youre able to do a back walkover how long did it take to get ti down after a bridge?...cuz i imagine they'll atleast help wit my BHS and some other tricks...never hurts to be more flexible
NOOOOO! Please don't do that back walkover transiton, it might be an epic failure for getting backflips. I learned my backflip no knowing that i must jump up and now it feels like i will never be able to get them properly. :dead:

DO NOT TRY TO LEARN BACK HANDSPRINGS AND BACK TUCK AT SAME TIME.
Just keep drilling your back tucks on the mattress or whatever until you feel completely comfortable with them. Don't rush yourself. When you feel like you've got it on total lockdown move onto the grass.
I would recommend not jumping FROM the mattress, so you dont get used to the extra springy-ness of it. Jump from solid floor and land on the cushions/mattress.

nothing wrong with trying to get them at the same time, i did around abouts the same time.
Just use grass its level and there's no fucking around.
there is no such progression
none of those moves are prerequisites for others
punch yourself in the balls and fucking go for it
fuck spots. do you have balls or not
edit:
I spent 6 months crashing backflips on grass and hard ground
then one day one of my balls dropped and I learned bhs
a week later my other one dropped and I learned to tuck
now I have two healthy testicles
