After getting kicked off my amazing elementary school grass field, I decided I needed a more consistent place I could trick now that they're back in school..

So I mowed my brother's front yard, and it's really nice and flat, but it's still kinda bare and soft. Anyone happen to know some ways to get it softer fast?

I'd probably be better off on some lawn forums or something >.>

my grass is burnt and the ground is hard. As far as grass goes mine sucks. I am also looking for a good answer

Water it.

Maybe some fertilizer and more grass seed if necessary...

water the grass... the grass really doesn't make any difference on landings if the ground itself is hard and dry.
I've found lawns with the most deliciously luscious grass, but the ground was still bone dry and definitely unfriendly. The experiences made me think of soft bedsheets out on concrete. I still tricked on it just because it was a pretty cool looking place
...
likewise, I've tricked in areas that had burnt-out, dry grass, but nice soft soil, and enjoyed it immensely. It's what's below the surface that counts

Adding a bit of sand to the soil can help. Somewhat sandy soil never seems to get slippery and tends to stay soft and friendly even without any rain whatsoever.

Just don't trick on the same area of grass too often. I did that and my backyard had flattened grass and yellow spots because of that. I didn't trick on that area anymore and it's good as new now.

I love how trickers can appreciate a good lawn. I don't know many other sports(not that i consider tricking a "sport") where people see a nice field of grass and say "Wow that's amazing, i want to trick(or insert sport of choice) here" haha i was going to make a similar thread about this.

Im considering thinning the grass out the back, And growing buffalo grass

http://tammanyturf.com/grassimages/buffalograss.jpg

Its Soft.
It has give for crash!
It has Great Grip!
It has Spring in it.

Then in winter when its wet it still has grip!
And drys better than other grass.

My father-in-law has the softest lawn.
I also have scouted out a few of the best parks as far as soft grass goes in the Portland area. :good:

Would grass turf grow well on top of that bouncy cedar flooring they have at zoos?
