What are your thoughts on it?

I think it's a very resourceful website that has played a key roll in the development of the tricking lifestyle. It has remained a universal online tricking hub, but seems to be losing some steam.

Well it was one of the first tricking sites I discovered. I probably would have discovered TT eventually but it was through a news bulletin on Bilang that I got here originally. I also enjoy the samplers released from there. TT is where I go for community but there's plenty of good stuff media-wise that I rely on Bilang for. Never really paid attention to the message boards.

still a good site for some unknown tricksters to get known. the message board is pretty much dead bar the occasional retarded fight. billy needs new cd's though...seriously lol.

I wish he would upload some of the real old vids that hes taking off, like if he put all of them up in the archive.

I think billy's contribution is absolutely amazing. He's hosted samplers of very skilled tricksters and has really made it possible for them to be known. A bilang sampler is sign of achievement, it has been that way for a while (possibly from the start) and still is in my opinion.

I actually feel that bilang lost its edge,, early on, only the best vhere to be found on bilang, but now....
its seems that it is the same criteria no as it was 4 years ago. but tricking har changed so drastically, that alot of the trickers on bilang nowadays, are mediocre at best....

but this is just my humble opinion

ya i agree with sebben, bilangs just putting people up for the sake of putting people up.

at first I had the idea that getting on bilang was something sick, because you'd see a lot of people that you idolize all have bilang samplers. but then you see people who arent really "bilang material" have their 4th and 5th bilang samps up... and its like, whats with that? lol

Go andy! I'd love to see people that are not into sport karate at all getting a bilang samp. I dunno if thats the norm but it seems like most bilang samps are sport karate ones.

it's dying out probably because billy doesn't give a shit. it was the site that got me into tricking and it's provided some of the best samplers.

I think bilang needs to ditch the message board and replace it with a forum.

I also think that he should encompass some way for every trickster to submit their tricking videos to a page so that the site can also act as a youtube tricking video archive. This functionality would be great if it was managed properly.

nah billys kinda made it a point for the past few years to say...theirs no point in a forum for him because tt fits whatever criteria u would need a forum for. he's acknowledged how useful tt can be. and if he made a forum it wouldnt add anything, it would honestly take away alot. plus it would be another hassle...dudes busy enough that he can barely manage that site..but add a whole forum. eek.

As for "non-bilang worthy tricksters" getting samplers up. I have two trains of thought on this..

As I said, I see Bilang as a universal hub. So like, a NASKA competitor that has never seen or heard of any sampler coming out of TT or 24htricksters etc, will put up a video. A lot of the time when this happens, the non-NASKA tricking community would probably not have heard of this trickster. That's kind of what makes it special, that if you do martial arts tricks, put together any type of sampler-ish video and get it up there. There's definitely the push to try and get your sampler up there along with some other great tricksters that have put up their videos (but a lot of really good tricksters don't bother anymore)

Not that I'm trying to solve the problem here but, what would be better? If Billy brought down his criteria (I don't really want to see that happen) or if he brought it up more. But I would indeed like to see Bilang get stepped up once again. Billy has travelled the world getting footage of tricks. He's done a lot. I used to send aspiring tricksters to Bilang because it was the definitive tricking website. Martial Arts Tricking at it's best.

Now where can I go? Surely not TT.

it cant be perfect, there is nothing that is absolutely perfect, so i'd say that billys site is more helpful than not, and that we should appreciate what he has given to us :D he doesnt have to do anything for us, but he does anyways. i wish i met him while i was at LK, im sure he's a great guy.

I admit, I didn't talk to a bunch of people at Loopkicks because I was too nervous, or was afraid of being/looking like a douche, or was just too shy to or something.

Maybe so, but YouTube TOTALLY changed everything, in my opinion.

I remember before, it was a big mess of people having their own sites just to upload videos. No organized way to find tricking videos (and remember tricking videos had a lot more weight on them back then. There was less videos, and even less ways to learn tricks at this point). Easiest way other than Bilang to get those videos would be to snoop around the MikeX server (of which I am still very grateful to MikeX), that and Club540, but that was on it's way out even faster (I remember using club540 and really liking it. Club540 is a great example of how YouTube changed everything).

But now with YouTube, not only do people have a place to upload their own footage, with (little to) no restrictions. But they have a place to upload the videos of others (like videos off Bilang) taking revenue out of Billy's pocket and out of the site.

Ugh...he means youtube didn't do anything, with respect to Bilang's site dying, which is the context of his post. He doesn't mean it didn't do anything in general, which is not the context of this thread.

youtube did change alot as in terms of spreading tricking around alot. but it didnt change the format of bilang. its the exact same as it was when i first found it in 01. bar a few new things its essentially unchanged. youtubed just gave more access to tricksters who werent bilang approved. the community didnt revolve around bilang after 03. tt helped with that and so did fs.

youtube didnt kill bilang...tt did in my opinion. their was a rediculously growing anti-establishment mentality and anti-naska....that still is going on today that caused bilang to be essentially a ghost town of a website. people who felt they weren't down with naska and the like went to tt....look at how long it took for alot of naska people to start posting here. i'm not trying to be one of those "this is why naska people dont post here" but lets be honest....fans of naska were a minority for a while here. it was cool to like naska then it was like uncool. so why post where ur not wanted.

youtube did do alot..dont get me wrong. it just wasnt the reason for bilangs current situation.
