View Full Version : Cheap high calorie foods
What are some cheap, high calorie foods - preferable protein based. I'm currently downing a ton of roasted, lightly salted almonds but since its a plant protein i know it doesn't have the full amino acid profile etc etc and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on things that aren't too expensive but can help me boost my caloric consumption.
also, weight gainer powder is too expensive for me.

Chicanerous will post the best list of foods you should eat, or at least, he did a few times in the past. It goes something like this, but his list had many more items.
-whole milk
-liver
-eggs
-red meat

Go to the butcher and ask for the cheap cuts of meats. Things like liver, kidneys etc... are all high in protein. If you don't mind the taste. I actually quite like the cheaper 'meats'.
Might help if you find a good cook book and have some recipes for that sort of thing.
As for calories; oil, eggs, milk and nuts all pack a lot of value for money in terms of calorie density.

I've never been able to do it, I puke it up everytime... but one glass of canola oil is 1800 kcal of mono/poly-fat which is fucking awesome.

Why would you try to drink this? You can easily use 1/2 cup cooking with it through out the day.

In Sweden we make cups in different sizes so I don't know how much that is, but I heard about someone drinking olive oil and I tried doing the same with canola, ever since I've had it as a goal.
Reason? There is none.

I drink olive oil when I "need". "Need" being a long day at 6th form with little to no breaks & time for food.Anyway,as aforementioned: nuts,eggs,oils & milk are the ones I find most useful. You could just shovel in some junk if you're desperate & there's nothing around at the time. Something is better than nothing.

Go shoot some pigeons outside :good:. And why does everyone keep mentioning red meat and the like. In Norway, it's by no means cheap. It's the most expencive out of all househeld meat. Fish, poultry and pork are much cheaper than red meat.

It is here too. But it depends on the cut. If you get some budget piece of crap cut, you still get the protein, but it's just unpleasant to the taste.

Olive oillllll, 100mls of it is like 800 calories, I used to drink it :] if you can't drink it though, mix in 100mls with a pint of milk, stir it in and then drink as fast as you god damn can.
A little tastier, and waheyyy with some casein protein.

I buy Kangaroo sausages $5 a kilo. In that kg I get 220 grams of protein with 30g fats and 30 carbs.
But I guess it's an Aus thing.

2kg Turkey breast. $20.... 400g protein, minimal fat, not too bad to eat either
