View Full Version : Backflip twist...doesn't go up.
Hey guys I been practising backflip twist and it looks like a...jumping backward butterfly twist. I keep telling myself to go up, then twist, but it still looks like jumping backwards butterfly twist. Any tips?

Well it looks like a backwards b-twist when you start your twist before you jump sooo the only tip we can give you is first go for the FLIP and then the twist. :) Try starting the twist when you are upside-down this will help you :)

Starting twisting before feet leaves ground is a big no-no.
what MasterM said. got to do the backkflip before you twist.

If you're having this much trouble with waiting to twist, you could try half twisting on the way down. Do your backflip, and don't even start to twist until you are coming back down. Start with a half twist, once you get really comfortable with that, try fulltwisting.
Do w/e you have to get comfortable with setting before the twist, tramp, tumbing into a pit, ask a coach. Try w/e you can do until something works for you.
Thanks guys. Hmmm when exactly do you twist? Is it the same timing, as they have said for backflip, when you reach the highest point of ur jump where you tuck?

you would want to have a layout, preferably, to start twisting. you will initiate the twist when pretty much straight upside down.

You are afraid to delay the twist. You can initiate the twist anytime you want and still end up ok. Relax, try twisting at the very end. Throw your hips above to your eye-level before twisting.
I thought layout=harder than backflip, since the lack of a tuck. Is it really easier with a layout?
Alright thanks guys, I am gonna try twisting later. I am thinking of trying it out of the sponge pit. Jumpingg off the edge of the pit adds a certain kind of fear...like I afraid if I don't jump back I would add bashing my head on the edge...nearly happened at a pool before.

Best idea is to learn it on trampoline, IMO, that way you won't have to go backwards. And of course, Frankinstine is correct, twisting a layout is 1000x easier, granted you know how to actually layout.

I think what he was trying to say you need to get comfortable with open backflips before trying fulltwists, because when you do a full twist you dont actually tuck you just bring your knees up a little.
Yeah you really just want to do a backflip and then like when you upside down/coming down then start twisting, because your into a foam pit you wont exactly hurt yourself.
Then when you get used to spinning the twist you can try and put the twist into your backflip a little earlier, but ONE major thing, FLIP before TWISTING else bad things happen.

I would not suggest bringing your knees up at all during full. It makes the twist harder and it looks uglier.
Just having a straight, tight body makes twisting way, way easier. so btw, if you guys aren't squeezing like a mofo while twisting, try it.
Yo guys wassup. Anyway I was at the gym today and I tried backflip twist again, this time on the mat. Well I am still doing the same thing, twisting too early.
Ultimately, I tried what my friends told me to do, that is to delay the twist, until I actually look at the ground and do a half twist. I managed to do that, landing on my butt. But man, I gotta say, the delay was WAY longer then I expected. It felt like forever in the air before I twisted. I am just amazed at how long I had to wait in the air.
Video up soon.

Yeah. That's your problem right there.
Look for the ground, then twist, it's as simple as that. I had the same problem, I would jump up and twist as soon as I left the ground, and I would twist like a cork and then faceplant.
Just wait until you see the ground, then rip.
Umm trampoline could help big time, as even i can full on tramp.

Here's my backflip halftwist guys. Let me know what you guys think.
As I said, I was pretty surprised to find out how long the delay was before twisting. And it didn't even feel like a twist, but looking at the vid, it looks okay to me...except landing on my ass.
