What is the best one in your opinion?

I'm not going to get one as a substitute for eating just incase you tell me to eat more instead.

They suck. It's basically whey protein and sugar.

Lobo
Sep-07-08, 03:53 PM
No they're not. They're like whey/casein/albumin blend, oats and activated barley, flax seed powder and MCTs.

Honken
Sep-07-08, 04:23 PM
What products would that be exactly? All the weightgainers I've seen in stores always read "carbohydrate 80 - from sugars 60" or something in that aspect.

That is simply a lie.

Why don't you just buy some protein powder, and mix it with whole milk, peanut butter, and other high calorie goodies?

The one I used was made by Atlas, and was called Atlas Weight Gainer (wowww incredible name ) , however as Baron suggested you can make your own weight gainer, so long as you have a blender ^.^ Using things like oats, peanut butter, olive oil, milk, whey protein, and anything else you can think of really.

As much as Weight Gainers shouldn't be used as replacements for food, I don't see there being anything wrong with just using them for the caloric benefits anyway. It gives you the calories, the calories helps you gain weight and is needed for gaining muscle, so who cares?

If people do care fair enough, I know I didn't and I made gains just fine.

CodyLee1337
Sep-07-08, 05:27 PM
Well the reason not to replace meals with them is that you don't get as many calories as you would by doing both and you might miss some very helpful nutrients if you don't make your shakes accordingly, Do both and be hardcore!

Oh yeah Skippy how much you weighing now?

Skippy
Sep-07-08, 06:30 PM
I weigh fuck all since I haven't lifted in forever, not that I weighed much anyway :]

I went from like 135 to 166 in like a 15 week period, then I didn't do anything the last 7-8 weeks and now I'm like 160. I'm doing bodyweight exercises once in a while to try and prevent too much atrophy but realistically my diet is awful. If I somehow get this job at the bodyactive store though I'll easily be at 170 by the end of this year, if I can get to a lean 175 by summer next year I'll be happy. If I get too a have-a-6-pack-but-not-so-lean 185 I'd be ecstatic, I know I could do it but I'd like to look not so fat.

CodyLee1337
Sep-07-08, 06:33 PM
Oh man were pretty close to each other I stay around a constant 165, I'm also looking to get to 175lb clean muscle. Under 10% BF atm but gaining weight is getting hard. We should both try to hit 170lb by end of this year that would be a good goal!

Skippy
Sep-07-08, 06:34 PM
How tall are you Cody out of wondering? I'm 5ft8 ^.^

CodyLee1337
Sep-07-08, 06:37 PM
6Ft even, So i'm pretty content with that height but I feel like 175lb is just a good looking number. Everyone tells me I've already got a very good body but I'm like 'wth you guys talking about' I'm never content /sigh

Skippy
Sep-07-08, 06:46 PM
I think a lean 180 at least would look good on you at 6ft, certainly above average. I'm more looking for a bodybuilding physique in the long run of life, rather than something thats functional for tricking. In the ideal world I'd end up looking like Layne Norton some day;

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/photo/data/3046/medium/obliques.jpg

If I get this job, everything is set out perfect enough for me to get into training again and hopefully compete in natural competitions some day. Although once I'd reached natural peak or a bloody good comfortable size and enough experience and research, I would no doubt use gear.

CodyLee1337
Sep-07-08, 06:52 PM
I'm with you man, I want the good looking body because when you are doing tricking along with other things its obviously going to be functional as well. I mean look at Juji the guy is nothing but beast and definitely one of the best trickers I have ever seen.

Yeah dude that would insanely amazing if you got that job, could definitely help on your goals. I need to put a lot more research into supplements and such. I just do whey and NO-XPLODE (sometimes noxplode) I really just want to look as sexy as I can to impress the girl ya know haha.

I have some weight gainer by Twin Labs that has no sugar. I use it because i can't eat while at work, but i can have a shake.

kris you won't be able to doublecork if you gain weight

Sprinting/rowing/squats and swimming will assure my doublecorks get BETTER.

And I only want the gainer to ADD ontop of shakes and other meals.

Because then I get extra calories easy with my milks.

Aka I can make my own protein shake before I work out, then after I can have the weight gainer one with milk.

Then I get lots of fun.

I will be drinking between 1 and 2 pints of milk a day too.

And gym 5 times a week.

This is one is fine, the taste is nothing amazing like, just bland but the quality of the formula and the price per calorie is good enough: http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/weight-gain/weight-gainer-(6lb)/

If you put in MP10234 in some box in the payment screen then you get 5% discount (and I get 1p for every £1 you spend in vouchers for the record)

Prolab N-Large 2 is delicious, but it's just typical crap like they sold in the 90's, like Honken said, sugar and a bit of a whey thrown in.

MRPs might be better, they're more of less the same as that first weight gainer except slightly more protein, more expensive and come in satchets usually. MyProtein do one of those too: http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/meal-replacement/meal-replacement/ which is much the same as their weight gainer taste-wise, but slightly better texture, and less calories per serving.

I tried a Reflex MRP free sample and it tasted very good, but you could really taste the oats, which some people might not like. The ingredients were much the same as that MyProtein one.

Overall I would say the weight gainer I first linked to is the best choice, it's cheaper and you measure out how much you want exactly because it's in a tub instead of satchets, and it's basically more like an MRP than a traditional crappy weight gainer like N-Large, because it's basically like 30/40/30 for protein, carbohydrates and fats and uses low GI carbohydrates, contains fiber, flax, etc.

Lobo
Sep-08-08, 10:16 AM
Also, if you want cheaper prices off that site enter "www.bulkpowders.co.uk" in their price matcher thing and it comes up with some better offers, the weight gainer and MRP aren't on there, but if you're looking to buy whey, or BCAAs, or fish oil, or whatever while you're at it then it might be useful.

Muscle Techhhh I dunno, from friends I have heard they are indeed good products but they are so badly overpriced and make outrageous claims.

Their 'celltech HARDCORE' claimed to be able to add 7lbs of lean muscle in a week. Lawl.

However the general things I heard were "Yeah it's overpriced, but if you can afford it, buy it". I was also informed to watch out for insulin spikes hohoho.

I guess you can't genuinely say it's an awful Brand unless you've tried it though, after all it's the only brand Ronnie Coleman used and worked well for him, a friend of the family Paul King was a competing natural bodybuilder and still bodybuilds as a hobby and uses their stuff.

Since I stopped conditioning 2 years ago I am stupidly weak haha so I'm starting gym tomorrow and I will find out my 1 rep max in a bunch of areas and post the results so I can look back on them in 10 months and laugh.

Don't try to max on your first workout in 2 weeks. Allow your body to remember a little first!

And everybody knows that it was Muscle Tech that made Ronnie go so far.

2 weeks? Plus comme 2 years lolololol

Tho I stopped and started a lot.

Ok I will just start out at a reasonable level and build up.

I don't want trigger points on my first workout haha.

I have another question.

For BCAA's would you reccomend using tablets or powder?

Tablets seem like a better way but I could be wrong?

Thanks.

paulSA
Sep-12-08, 07:56 AM
Powder is the way to go... Dude, 2 litres of milk a day, thats gonna lead to lactose intolerance... Keep to 250mls of milk with each shake you take...

As for Bcaa's, you get far better value for money when buying the powders than tabs form. Oh and Ronnie Coleman uses BSN too.... The best is to experiment with your different muscle builders. Ive used, MuscleTech, BSN, Muscle Science (South Africa), USN( South Africa) and i got my best results on MuscleTech. Go for BCAAs like Glutamine for muscle repair, and Leucine which aids against catabolism...
Also get yourself a preworkout Nitrix Oxide drink, like NO Explode of BSN, or Super Pump from Gaspari...both are expensive but valuable to your muscle building stack... Muscle Tech has a brilliant product NaNoX9 which is in a tab form...awesome muscle pumps and energy which creates a burning feeling while you train. Its priceless! Good luck to you mate. Ive put on about 3kgs in the last 4 months. Havnt gained much fat either. Try getting more than 2grams of clean protein in your diet per kilo of bodyweight...then you should be well on your way. Hope this has helped.

oh ya, almost forgot.....ZMA is great for boosting your testosterone levels....get some ZMA tabs for in the evenings....

For fuck's sake, do you really just go parading around parroting utterly generic and wrong opinions spewed out from the supplement/fitness industry?

Lobo
Sep-12-08, 09:45 AM
BCAAs like Glutamine

Glutamine isn't a BCAA.

ZMA is great for boosting your testosterone levels

No, if you're deficient in zinc then your testosterone level can drop off, ZMA prevents that happening usually.

Steve
Sep-12-08, 09:56 AM
It's also unlikely that you would be deficient in zinc on a diet high in meat and therefore protein and fat.

(hint hint)
