View Full Version : A "loose" tendon (malleolus)

Two days ago, i somehow messed up my ankle. The tendon from my peroneus longus muscle is "loose", and when i tilt my foot backwards, the tendon that runs down from the muscle and behind my malleolus slides across the "lateral side" of my malleolus.
I'm not very familiar with these terms, i hope i described it correctly or that you can follow me.

It happened as i took off for a raiz. I've done raiz that way for a long time, i didn't do anything different, and i had done some 540's and hooks before this, yet suddenly it went out of its place, and it hurt like hell. After that, it's become really unstable. I can now hardly flex my foot upwards, because then my tendon is prone to slide over where it shouldn't be (and it most cases, it does). So now i'm unable to do anything that involves jumping and running.

My malleolus is red and slightly swollen. The doctors said nothing has been ripped, but they couldn't tell me why my tendon was suddenly "loose" and prone to slipping out of place. This, combined with the fact that it slipped again less than 2 hours ago, makes it hard for me to believe that this will fix itself, even if i rest long enough. If nothing has been ripped, what is there for my body to repair??

Already at my first visit, the doctors talked about surgery. They can cut away some of my malleolus, making a deeper "rift" for my tendon to fit in, decreasing its chances of sliding across my lateral malleolus. But i'll have to wait a few weeks before they will look more closely at my injury, and who knows how long it takes before i can get the surgery done, and for how long i would then have to heal. I really can't see any good way out of this.

Anything to enlighten me would help. As for my ability to heal myself, and for how long i'm going to be out of the game, I'm trying not to be too optimistic and eventually disappointed, but at the same time, trying not to be too depressed since i don't know much about it yet.
Actually, what you've read is all i know - do you know anything else about it?
Can it fix itself?
Is the surgery easy or difficult, high or low risk?
Will it guarantee that the tendon stays in place? Is there a name or term for this kind of injury?
Do you know anyone who had the same problem, and how did it go?
Is there a website where i can read more about my type of injury?

Thanks in advance.

Ask the doctors wether it can heal on it's own. Their answer will probably be more reliable than ours.

I would just eat right, stay off it, go through a rom, you know the basics. Nobody on TT is (probably) skilled enough to give you viable advice other than those basics. Sry man. Good Luck!!!

I HOPE YOU GET WELL SOON!!!!

Wait, so you got an MRI?
If the doctor had you go in for an MRI then what he told you is probably going to be more than anyone here can tell you...you could always go to another doctor or a specialist for a 2nd opinion.
If you didn't get the MRI than you need to, especially before talking about surgery haha.

lolol, here you would be told, "start jogging, then slowly work up to running"

Tendons are a part of our bodies, our bodies are awesome.
It will tighten.
You have my promise.

Hm, sometimes when I move my right ankle it feels weird and sometimes painful, maybe slipping explains that annoying crap.

The best thing I could think of would be to do controlled strength movements? Maybe if the muscles will tense the tendons will tighten where they need to be? Seems better than pounding with impact, since impacts jar stuff out of place.
