Dearest Health and Nutrition forums:
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
I've been having problems, regarding my immediate health. I'm seeing the doctor today, but I wanted to run it by some of you guys too, since any advice is wonderful.
I am having two major problems at the moment:
- Frequent insomnia (once every two-three days, I do not sleep the given night)
- Dehydration (skin tenting, GI problems, corporal weakness)
This has been a problem for the past two weeks, and I am afraid it's going to affect my school work. My diet has not changed (I eat a high protein, low carbohydrate diet) since the beginning of the year, and all I practically drink is water (about a bit more than a gallon a day, usually). My trick sessions last about one and a half to two and a half hours a day, with stratified fifteen minute breaks. On the note of stress: I have never been happier, and I am not at all stressed. It takes a lot to stress me out, and this is still below threshold.
Any guesses on the underlying problem? I'm open to any suggestions to improving my health.

My guess would be that you're pretty much low on a lot of stuff nutritionwise, vitamins, fats etc. Arent you like 140lbs? How many calories do you eat a day?

I take one/two multivitamins a day, but I am very light, as you said (142lbs).
You know, Karl. My diet is extremely low on fats. I sit around 6.5% body fat, and my calorie intake ranges from 1500-1800 a day. I don't do any cardio at the moment (I save cardio for summer).
Help.

I'd suggest eating more calorie rich and varied foods, also try pushing in some fat into your diet. Flax seed oil, bacon and butter and veggies.
Edit: what Karlnold said

Too keep this short, try getting up to atleast 2000 calories a day to start with, you dont have to add 500 calories immidiately tomorrow, but try eating a tad more, step by step.
I'm not a big fan of fat myself, some people seem obsessed about it, screaming how you cant build muscles without getting fats. Ofc you need fat for buidling muscles, but I always try to prioritize proteins and carbs, by the end of the day, I end up getting my fair share of fat anyway. My lunch and dinner consists of "normal" food, and those meals seem to give me all the fat I need, I've never had any problems in gaining in muscles even though I try to avoid fat food.
Anyway, I'm not suggesting that you necessarily have to gain weight or anything, but it seems you trick and stay active a lot, I think 1500 cals sounds a bit too little for all that, and especially if it's from food low on nutrition, just eat a little bit more, and try to make it food rich on nutrition.
I have no idea what your diet looks like, there can be plenty of vitamins and stuff you're missing out on if it's not that varied.
If you get more energy you will also have the energy to do more stuff, tricking, studies, branling, whatever. You dont have to gain in weight, you can stay on a +-0 calorie surplus/deficit, but I think increasing your metabolism would do you good.
And by the way, you cant rely on 1 or 2 multivitamin pills a day to supply you with the vitamins your body need.
I think I was about to say something more but I cant remember, I'm not even sure what the hell is wrong with you, I'm just guessing, 1500 cals sounds awfully low anyway, your body is on standby, I'm surprised you even have the energy to exercise at all.
Good luck anyway.

Isn't dehydration solved by hydrating? Plus dehydration can worsen insomnia so it might help that a bit... but insomnia can be a problem no matter who you are...
Do you drink coffee? Coffee causes both those problems.

it may be ur diet, the whole high protein - low carbs thing. When you don't have enough carbs in ur body, the body uses fats and protein for fuel, and an end product of this are ketones. A high level of ketones can cause problems. I think i have explained it alright. This may explain your low body weight, low body fat and dehydration. Also the weakness as the fuels your body needs arent as readily available. look up "ketones, ketosis, high protein low carb diet" etc on google and u'll get a fair bit of info. Go on google scholar if u want reliable info.

I cant believe I didnt think of telling him to go to the doctor instead, especially since the thread is called "Pre-doctor question" where he obviously asks questions right before going to see a real doctor...

I bet it's nutrition. Usually when people eat low carb they eat more fat, and vice versa. Since you are eating low carb and low fat as well as low calories, you probably are malnourished.

I stated several times that I was just guessing and that I had no idea what was wrong with him, but a guy his age shouldnt have a starved out diet like he described no matter what.

Yes, doc, you're obviously right, he better not increase his calorie intake or vary his diet before consulting with his doctor, least he wants to die.

I'm not a doctor or health professional, but what Karlnold said sounds right to me; a more varied diet rich in fats; fats are definitely essential to a healthy body.

I choose to listen to both, since Karl is quite educated and astute. There is a list of people in this subforum that basically run this place concerning factual information and application, and he's one of those guys.

When will you finally tell us what that medicine man of yours said, Dan? Wasnt that the whole point of this thread? Wasnt that the climax to come? That there was something wrong with you, and you were going to find out what? Or was it all a lie Dan, did you lie? Did you lie for attention and the care of others? Dan?
