I have been trying to get his for a while now and I have had some thoughts.
1. what type of flexibility does it require (static, passive ect.)?
2. what muscles are actually being stretched?
Thanks guys

I think the scorpion kick is the most pointless, unattractive, that has a cooler name than it actually is, lame excuse for a trick or kick.
Maybe train front splits, and oversplits and stretch the shit out of your thighs, oh and your lower back might be helpful too. Talk to Graber, I bet that's his best trick.

Forget the scorpion kick, it's impossible unless you're a freaky snake lady. I'd be surprised if Jujimufu could nail that one

You need to have great hip abductor strength, strong glutes, and way beyond normal range of motion in basically all lower body stretches. Train every stretch and do a lot of static holds and dynamic back kicks. It's going to be harder for a guy though, mostly because if you have any mass to you you're going to be top heavy and have a harder time balancing for the move.

both.
freeze frame chloe locking out this kick n then tilt your head sideways and you shall see what kinda of stretch you need to train lol
pay attention most to the direction her toes are pointing

Haha.. you should do dynamic active and static active stretches.. I have excellent flexibility, and I can't hold a round kick higher than head height, so good luck with it

I have been practicing this kick for a while and the only muscles actually stretched are the hamstrings, calves, glutes, and hip flexors.

Pretty sure adductors should be on that "brief" list too.

Can you do all the splits already Ori? That's a starting point.

No. I was about 1inch away in the beginning of summer before I had my "accident" and could not stretch for a while. Back then I mainly focused on dynamic stretches. I have started stretching lately and luckily I did not lose much flex. Currently, I am about 90 degrees away from being able to do a "proper" scorpion kick.
Oh and hip flexors = abducters

No they don't?
Raising your knee is an example of hip flexion (opposed by tension in your glutes, among others), while the side split is an example of hip abduction (opposed by tension in your adductors).
I love semantics.

Regardless I train them both

Raising your knee is an example of hip flexion (opposed by tension in your glutes, among others), while the side split is an example of hip abduction (opposed by tension in your adductors). They're definately different muscle groups that handle flexion/abduction, but at the same time, you can't help but wonder if there isn't some overlap when it comes to the splits, because since so make people do it with the hip rotated out, the knee is up so it's understandable how it can seem like hip flexion, and really, you could also think of it as abducting in a hip-flexed position too.
Oh fuck you gotta have the most epic flexibility for that,

That someone actually reffers to this as a kick!
It's more like a strech excercise for 0.000000001% of the population.
And personally I think it looks ugly as hell
