i'm having that problem too..um, try pushing back from the wall a lot more.
When i learned them, I found spotting doesn't work too well for wall flips. There are a few things that worked for my friends.
1. If you have a mattress you can use, put it in front of the wall, but don't start on the mattress, run up at an angle beside it, and well...try to land on the mattress.
2. Don't start with a straight over the top flip, start trying them slanted so you still see the ground, and just straighten it up as you get more confident

oh dang. that one's helping me f'sho xD
i just dont know where i can get that kinda wall and mattress o.o
Think of it like a gainer, plant your foot then swing your arms and leg up, and if you drive your arms back far enough (so that they lock above your head), you'll land far from the wall. I just learned them yesterday at the beach trying them on some dunes at that worked for me,
good luck!
