I've been analysing lots of tricking and acrobatics videos, and I'm trying to work out whether it is better to stay on the balls of your feet when transitioning through combos and punching.

I've been having problems gaining height with my punch front somersault, and I've been jumping onto and off the balls of my feet and pushing through the toes on takeoff. The other day, I thought I have to go into this move thinking I'm going to do a double somersault so I'll really force myself to push hard, and without thinking about it, I punched this time from the heel and pushed through the toes on takeoff, and got much more height. More so a flat flooted punch than the heel already elevated punch.

I know obviously for a backwards move, you have to go into the ground balls of feet first and push up, heels don't touch the ground.

So mainly for foward movements, I was wondering from the experienced trickers who have sufficient height on their tricks, how do you jump? Also when transitioning through combos do you stay on the balls of your feet?

Edit:Perhaps wrong sub-section, can a mod move this to tips for tricks perrty please?

I would say stick with the balls of your feet.

punching off your heel can cause injury, just stay on the balls of your feet.

Well you see that tutorial shows you well that you need to take off flat footed, because if you're already on the balls of your feet, you'll have already chopped off a bit of your extension so you'll get less height.

But when it comes to punching, I think you have to land flat footed, not ram the heel into the ground, just make sure your take off is flat so you can use the full extension.

However, as the guy points out in the video, punching is perhaps a waste of time, when you run foward, to make sure you jump high, you have to put your feet in front of you, which I think gives the illusion of punching.

But then I don't know when it comes to a round off, whether you should smack the ground with your feet and shoot up or land flat footed as possible and then shoot up. I've looked at a lot of videos, like tye hill, I have the impression he wacks the shit of the ground and stays on the balls of his feet but it's difficult to see, other guys seem flat footed. I don't know.

when i transition from roundoff into backflip i stay at the balls of my foot and kick as agressive as possible
try to get off the ground again as fast as possible
(Do not spring down then burst up, but transition the momentum fast. Not too fast though.. if you do it too fast you might end up hurting yourself like i did... "aaand PUNCH! TWIST! Shit! where'd the ground go?!?" *Bang*

Jimnast, i think you are way over thinking this whole thing. Just punch off the balls. Its all about the balls anyway.
