View Full Version : squat hip pain
My hip flexors started hurting about 3 weeks ago when I was doing squats. After about a week I decided to stop for 2 weeks. Today when I started doing my first working set for rippetoe's, they started hurting again. Not as much but still. I tried widening my stance and it relieved the hip pain.
I used to do squats like this:

Now I did them like this:

I know it sounds real anal, but is this really that big of a deal. I noticed I could do more weight with the slightly wider stance.
Should I rest for a month so I can do it the way I used to, or should I just keep doing them like this because it doesn't hurt? Also, does anyone have experience with this kind of pain? I'd like to know if it's serious or not.

It probably still hurts because you haven't healed it properly.

I do the wider stance kind. You can tell the wider one is better because they have Gluteus Maximus listed as the main target. Glutes are pretty much the coolest muscle, so it is obvious that that one is better.

Haha. This guy can just barely maintain form at that depth.

If you're doing the movements as shown in the animations, this is because you aren't descending as low and have potentially better leverage if your posterior chain is strong.

Let it heal and then use the variation that doesn't hurt.
I had some hip flexor pain for a while. I foam rolled the quads and hips, gave it rest, and it eventually went away. It was probably overuse as I had just started taking the classical lifts seriously.
werubgfwai alright i guess i have to take a break =[
What would be a good alternative to rippetoes that doesn't involve squats until my hips heal?
Please, I really need some help. =[
For the month or so that I'm healing, I want a routine that is based on hypertrophy. I don't care about strength until my hip gets better. I just want to get bigger. I have infinite time to lift lolol and I drink a bunch of milk and eat a lot of eggs, oats, meat, and etc. I even out-eat most of the football players in the dining hall. People know me as the kid with the lip ring who eats a shit load lolol.
I want bigger gunz, calves, and chest =[
edit: oh yeah, and anything that could help with abs so I can get rid of this lordosis. I also want real strong core muscles for twisting and flipping. My abs are weak compared to my back.
