540 kick help....

Oka so ive been kinda neglecting wrking on my 540 kick lately because of my knee but i decided to finally get thm a little decent by trying to lean back and really put more power in it......these are some of my first attempts in a long time so please dnt go insulting me..:smile:

Change your setup, you look like you're trying to sideswipe. Use your arms to get you up, don't have them flapping around everywhere. You need to jump as high as you can and use your entire body.

Just drill really and you'll see better results.

Edit: You shouldn't even be landing on your ass like that, the 540 isn't a really horizontal type move. Leaning back won't help much. If you learn the 540 leaning back you'll develop bad technique and the way you land you won't be able to follow through with a combo. So just work on the 540 but keep your body mostly vertical.

when i saw "lean back" i wanted to cry.

ok. well after inspection, change your set up.

DO TORNADO KICKS! they will help you so much! i do not see a hint of a tornado kick in your 540 attempts. dont lean back, it will only be harder for you to break that habit, and it can put more pressure on your knee since you wont be going up.

use your arms, this will be affected from your set up change. PRACTICE YOUR TORNADOS! other than that. keep drilling. kicks ftw.

In addition, you might want to find a high target to spot. Practice your tornado kicks and emphasize ripping the kick through the target. Once you can do that with power, try to do that with your 540.

So set up, spot, jump, kick (while spotting the target), and make sure to go way past the target and keep pulling that leg until you land. Having a target doesn't always work, but it helped for me.

Just remember not to stop pulling until you are way past the target if you try this.
