I recently achieved my goal of getting a 540 where I'm not forcing my foot to the ground really hard. However, I can't always get it and my main problem would be my arms. They either stay in they up position or drop down, and I can't seem to get them to wrap during it. Does anyone have any advice for this?

arms dont need to be wrapped in 540z.

They do if I want to be able to land it more consistently without having to force my leg down (Which then sends a shock up my leg and I can't do any more tricks for a few minutes, so it would suck for combos).
Not to mention that in almost every tip thread I see for the 540, someone says to wrap.

yes but a lot of people are idiots lol. best thing you can do with your arms on a 540 is swing up. take it from me. I can do an ok 540 :) ^_^

Wrapping helps. Just do it after your kick has reached the peak. Do not wrap early.

My main problem isn't with wrapping early. It's with wrapping at all. I can't seem to stop my hands from flopping to the side and pulling them in.

Uhh not sure if I'm really understanding your problem, but I'd say you should chamber the nonkicking leg HARD when you kick over, it'll make the leg go over a lot faster, and that way you have more things that you're doing with your arms versus having them do nothing.

I have a pretty good idea what your problem is. Here's the basic solution:
Drill it more and figure out the momentum.
Now for an almost-unnecessarily elaborate explanation:
During your takeoff, aim to throw your shoulders and arms all the way around (try to turn as much as possible). That compensates for the counterbalancing movement that your arms/upper body does when your kick comes across, preventing your arms/upper body from torquing the opposite way of your lower body after the kick and diminishing momentum. Once you can do that, the timing of the wrap should come naturally shortly after the kick, allowing the upper body to follow the momentum of the lower body more efficiently.
That seems to be the problem you've noticed and are focusing on right now, but be mindful of other possible issues:
-Finishing the kick; forcing it all the way around and then controlling where your foot goes for the landing instead of letting it fly across and fall down
-Exploding from the ground during takeoff and using your arms to go UP as well as around
-Foot placement/blocking of the move.
To sum it up:
-try different things and figure it out for yourself
-drill; since you only recently started doing good 540s
