I think that the biggest reason that i haven't become a better trickster is that no one is yelling at me, and yelling at myself is only pissing me off. I feel like I've been doing little but plateauing for the past 4-5 months and no matter how much i trick i just cant push myself that little bit further into breakthroughs. While my learning style has always been erratic little spurts of success, I genuinely feel tired of training the same things all the time. I've taken breaks, hit the weight room, tried other hobbies, all to no avail. I am still woefully obsessed and disgusted with my tricking.
what do i need? new blood to trick with, new scenery, a new style?
If i wasn't so passionately in love with tricking I'd give it up.
does anyone have any tips on overcoming this bitch of a rut?

as Always

finding more people to trick with never hurts. And if they are about your skill level you can challenge each other to land a certain trick by a certain date.

As for you thinking about a new style. Find somebody you look up to and see what they like to do and try and work around that!

Also try random tricks that you never do, even if they are stupid, lol. Then after you get them decent put them in combo's and then start working with other stuff...

...

or....

....you could adopt my way of progression...and you may be told not to do this but hell it worked for me and for cory (when he does it)

When you first get a move, land it 3 times, then immediately go to the next variation, or the next amount of spins. That's how i started to learn double full, i crashed full twice (feet then fall over) then landed it once, then started trying for full and a half...did that once and just said what ever and started trying doubles... Just go for it man!

Take a little break. Analyze all of your tricks. Maybe go back to basics for awile to build a better base for your more advanced tricks. If your tired of training the same things start trying something new. if you are a kicking tricker do some flips or twists or do some kicks if you normally flip and twist. Another thing, try to make up some creative combos to try or new moves. If your not progressing in months you probly don't have things well planned. write up a list of tricks or combos you are gonna try and try different things all the time so you aren't doing the same tricks over and over.

That'ss a great idea with the challenging deal! i'll give that a go once i think of a good challenge trick.

i completely agree with the style part, i've just been so over the place tricking wise that its difficult to find a consistent tricking day...

while i've never tried the style of learning that you above mentioned i will have to give it a try, as i do get real impatient with myself and my tricks. The fresher it is the easier it may be to alter.

Thanks Rudy! your tricks are the shit, and i eagerly await a time that we can trick cause trouble for the establishment together!

is this safe....?

i was just about to cover my tracks with that, lol

peter...the only thing that i'm going to recommend about that learning curve is that you need a relatively strong comprehension of the trick before you go on...if you can do it on a trampoline every time the you are ok. Keep in mind that the curve should not go like this

day 1

bhs
tuck
layout
flash
switchkick
2 hours later

double back

there you need to keep in mind what could actually work, and what might get you seriously hurt. It is a bit of a risky way of learning but if you do it correctly it'll work wonders

Depends on the trick. Usually it probably won't be, and it's practicality will depend on the individual, though I imagine experimenting with it could only help.

I tried this recently actually and it worked really pretty well!
my only problem is that during the winter i only have access to a hard floor dance studio. it KILLS the joints, and trying things like cork variations on it are pretty much suicide for my legs and back. I think I'm just going to go back to basics for a little while and continue to condition when i can. i would LOVE to be able to get on a trampoline, but boarding schools have ridiculous insurance policies. they don't like the fact that i trick in the first place.

have you tried setting personal goals or making a trick book? that way you can write down your own personal understanding of the tricks you jot down and make corrections based on others' comprehensiion of the tehchnique. back to goals, you know how good you are, so you should have a sense of awereness of the types of moves you are capable of. you already grew the tree, so try to create the many branches of your foundation.
