View Full Version : (Very) Basic tumbling
With an upcoming show for the circus that I'm in, I've been training some of the basic moves in the hope that they'll be ready by then. If anyone could help me with my technique (without reiterating the need for me to stretch my shoulders), I'd appreciate it, especially with the headspring, handspring and the j-steps:

Watch in HQ, it's better that way: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=YBkY53nRd6I
Thanks in advance,
Liam from Melbourne
P.S. Most of the moves are done off a little ledge at Airey's inlet, with exception to the frontsaults, oh, yeah, bonus moves in the second half
Not too bad, they're all very clean.
I can't really tell from the angle, but the front handspring looks like it needs more springing from the hands, the headspring looks pretty nice.
The backflip would be higher if you finish your jump before tucking instead of cutting it short.
For the J-step, the whole reason for doing it is for momentum, but you look like you're just tossing it from standing after 2 steps. Which you totally can land, but for the J-step to make any difference you have to carry the momentum up with you. Try taking a few running steps, then while still moving, put your jumping leg way out in front of you with your arms and kicking leg way back, then jump and kick everything straight up.
Good luck!
quit doing shit off a ledge, it's going to build bad habits for when you move to flat ground
otherwise, you have the basic idea with most of the things, you just have to drill them
a general tip is be more aggressive. more power
for the gainer you are using too much effort jumping. the power comes from the kick. swing your kicking leg as fast and high as you can before jumping
good luck in your training

Nice juggling!
I think I'll make a basic noob tumbling vid which should show how to fix your handsprings, as well a lot of foundational stuff for everyone. Filming on Thurs.
