Well I've reached 185lbs, I'm 5'9 and my past 4 or 5 weeks, I've seen some major improvement.

My starting bench was 145lbs and is now 195lbs
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a83/tdmonster/140631.jpg

My squat started 3x12x125 and is now 3x12x195 (note: this is my first time incorporating squats in my routine)
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a83/tdmonster/140449.jpg

Well my physique isn't very impressive as shown above and I'd like to know what'd be the better decision and how to do both of them efficiently. Should I bulk then cut or would it be faster to go on a diet that builds muscle and burns fat at the same time(although I'm sure the ladder would be harder). So TT, can you help me out?

personally i would bulk to 200lbs. if you notice an undesirable change in bodyfat at any point then reassess your goals and maybe start to cut. :good:

that's my choice.

You will not effectively build muscle and 'burn' fat at the same time.

You still need to be more muscular in order to optimize your body frame.

What is your routine like?

I have already noticed an undesirable change in BF%. But it's expected.
Do you have any advice for cutting, for when I do get to 200? I don't want to go on a lousy cut and lose too much strength.

MWF
3x12 squats
25 pullovers
3 sets of chins til failure
3 sets of decline situps til failure
3 sets of dips til failure

TT
bench 5x5-50% 3x3-70% 2x2-80% 2x2-90% 1x1-100%
incline 3 sets of 8
bent rows
assisted dumbbell rows

Yes I'm aware of the shittyness of my routine.

Y'look fine, matey.

Build some strength/definition, some flexibility, and learn some hella tricks.

remeber the zone for strength gain is anything under 6 reps and for mass gain is between 12 and 6 reps. That is a little gem that should help you recreate your routine because your right your current routine blows massive amounts of cock.

EDIT: btw your not 185lb no hope, you look like your around 135lb. Im 176lb and 6'1 and I am much bigger then you.

Well I don't have enough weight to work for my 1 rep max on squats (I only have 235lbs, I'll probably get some more weight for Christmas). I'm okay with my routine and once its done, I'll make a better one with the weight from Christmas.

"Ideal weight" means nothing for anyone who is athletic or into sports or muscle building. Keep that in mind.

Well I understand that body composition and or strength is more important than weight. But I'm just saying I'd like to be lean at this weight and I'd like to know the best to get there.

Really 185? You do not look like you weight that much...

Thats me and my bro we he is at 165 and I'm at 160 so I don't think your scale is very accurate good sir.

Dec-19-08, 08:52 PM
I've been on three scales. Two at my moms and one at my dads. It could be my higher BF% that makes me look like I'm smaller than I am, and you two are flexing.

Dec-19-08, 08:56 PM
You need a good scale, I thinks, are you weghing in with shoes/clothes as well?
lol if anything high bf% should make you look heavier not lighter...especially at 5'9
My opinion start cutting down once you get to like 15%-20% bodyfat and see how you feel about your strength and restart the process.

I know for a fact I'm in the 180 range. Besides, the person holding the camera looks smaller than me.

Thank you =]
I've been grounded for TT's downtime and a little more, so I was very strict with my program and my bench set makes me smile every time I walk by it.

I dont think you understand no your not anywhere near 180lb and they are both bigger then you, even with your increased bf%.

Yeah, I really don't see how you could be 185 lbs. I looked bigger than you when I was 170 lbs.

the last time i cut (as well as this time - i'm cutting right now) i went on a low carb diet and did some fasted cardio. small, low energy portion sizes. eat regularly and STICK WITH IT. that's how i do it anyway. there are other ways.

give it a shot i say. :good:

In your opinion how much better is a low carb cutting diet than a normal cutting one ?

well i wouldn't really recommend it over a normal cutting diet.

the pros are it works pretty fast and seems to target primarily fat. it also decreases appetite and gives you a pretty much perfect complexion.

buuut i feel less energetic than when i'm eating carbs and my mood isn't as good. i've a feeling the loss of fat is also more temporary unless you make an effort to taper carbs back in slowly.

tbh i dunno haha

As far as ideal weights are concerned, I don't think that should really be something you should think on, more like your ideal look. Everyones bodily structures are different and weigh all crazy different things. My first physique goal to reach is Jans, who weighs 185 if I remember rightly, but for all I know I might not actually look like how his physique is until I'm 190, or maybe it could be lower like 175 (I am currently 175 but plenty of bodyfat, so a cut down 175).

There's a guy on bodybuilding.com called Bondons who is 5ft10 and 170, but looks like 200.

Christ people, stop arguing about how much he weighs, I believe he is competent enough to know how to use a scale or two.

And Vatic you are an idiot, instead of taking steriods just kill yourself.

Its possible but I doubt it. That right there is crazy amount of hardwork not only in lifting but in diet too.

My advice: Go ahead an bulk to 200 or 205. There are two types of bulking. Clean and dirty.

Clean Bulk:
This means you gain weight with as little BF% increase that you can. It means eating more, but eating more healthy. It is harder to bulk this way, and it will take longer to reach 200. However you won't gain as much fat doing it this way.

Dirty Bulk:
This means you gain weight with out regard to how much BF% you gain, but combined with a strength/mass building workout, you will gain good amounts of muscle. You will reach 200 faster, however you will gain more BF this way. Then you cut. Keep doing your same routine, but lower the amount of calories and make sure most of your calories come from protein, so that you do not lose muscle mass.

If you don't have a very strong will power, I suggest doing the dirty bulk. Its easier and your more likely to stick to it than the clean bulk. With the clean bulk, you have to be very detailed with every calorie you put into your body. But on the upside, you don't have to cut afterwards. So there's my 2cents.

The weight of an individual can have to do with a lot besides muscles. I could say I look somewhat big for 170 at 5'9, but my friend who is bigger than me muscle wise all around and taller by at least two inches, is 8 lbs lighter than me even when at slightly higher bf than me. bony density, hell maybe even muscles density and water retention all effects, probably a lot of other crap i don't know about too.

Yes,I'm 195 @ 5'5" & have a really small bone structure, with around 15-20%bf; I do not look it. I think the whole how heavy people look & how heavy they really are variations can be pretty funny.

Anyway Tristan, IMO just keeping gaining weight. Look at those pictures & just imagine slightly more visible abs & quads & think to yourself whether you'd like it or not. If you like the idea then cut,if not continue lifting & eating lots.
