I can't find any gym that is available for public use... You guys got any around your local area or are you stuck tricking on grass like I am?

Plenty of people here have open gyms to use. It's true many do not because they don't live in any big cities and would have to travel quite far to find one. How did you go about looking for some to begin with? You didn't really specify how well you looked but if you check out the yellow pages online search for "gymnastics instruction" and you'll find a list of gyms to call around.

If you've already done that kind of research then I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps some other athletic facilities have areas you could use like a YMCA or whatever.

People in the US are very lucky with their gym opportunities as it seems. I live in a rather big city and we dont have gyms for public use etc. Such things are extremely rare here. :(

The gym near my house charges a monthly fee, followed by a 5-10$ ( I forget) payment everytime you want to go into the open gym. :agony:

We used to have a gym key and could go anytime and have the gym all to ourselves but we never paid so we lost our only gym and now it's 100% grass.

Oh yeah and it was only $5 for a whole day which is about $3 US

I have to drive 1 1/2 hours for a decent open gym. I went to one closer for a while, but they charged like $50 for a year membership to be allowed to come to "open gym," then charged $10 for each time you came. I went like 4 times, and the last time they were like "oh yeah, this will be the last open gym, we're not doing it during the spring or summer." I asked if I was getting part of my year membership back since I couldn't even use it, and they told me "no, because if you decide to sign up for classes, you won't need to pay the additional membership fee."

Fucking scam artists.

errrm a good way to get in is maybe sign up for tumbling classes and then work your way into some floor time by yourself

^^^^^
this. most gym owners will freak out if they see you doing stuff with bad form. so its usually easier to sign up for a class, let the teacch you some basics, and let them get to know you and like you so they can trust you to work by yourself safely

it's true that most gyms do not offer open gym. open gym is where people are most likely to get injured, and parents can often be thrown off

it is possible sometimes to strike a deal with the owners, but that type of thing is always on thin ice

juji's gym courtship article is also worth mentioning

getting to know the owner/coaches at a gym can be a big help as well

but really the best way to get free gym time is to get a job at a gym

This. It's how I go to open gym...hell they actually pay me to go to open gym to watch over the other idiots that do their ski tricks on the tramp and foam pit.
But I get to trick while I'm there so I basically don't even work open gyms. It's awesome and I'm lucky to have the job.

But really it's good to get to know the gym owners/managers and be friendly, it can only work in your favor.

Yes but tricking on grass when it's been below 25 for the past few days sucks. And it's warmer today but it rained..

whereabouts in PA is scranton?

It's about 1.5 hours North(and slightly west) of Philly if you are driving in a car. It's one of the bigger cities in PA.

Oh yeah if you have ever seen that show called "The Office", it takes place in Scranton.

I can't stand that show. I don't think my sense of humor is sophisticated enough

I looked it up, it's about 6 hours away from Cleveland, a bit far

I remember once in high school some of my friends and I drove up to hershey, PA once
