So about 2 months ago, marines came to my school with a challenge, it was do 100 pull ups, no getting off the bar, you'd win a free hummer. I tried it and only got 26-30 pull ups lol. I wondered if I trained in sets of 12 multiple sets (pure strength supposedly) could I pull off 100 (More muscular endurance) ?

They said they'll be back next year so I wanna be ready.

Was there a time limit?

This would take incredible muscular endurance. Your best bet would probably be learning to use a grip which allows you to rest while still hanging onto the bar.

I can't imagine anyone doing 100 consecutive pullups... which makes their challenge pretty safe for their wallets.

No, there was no time limit, the thing was, the bar was covered with tape, shakey, and kinda sweaty form everyone else... :eh:

Do 20, place your feet on the bar and rest while holding it, do another 20 etcetc...

You're still hanging onto the bar, and there is not time limit. No rule against breaks.

Marines are pretty strict about the pull-ups done for the pull-up challenges, they generally want dead-hang pull-ups, bringing your chin over the bar every time. I doubt you could build yourself up to 100 that met their standards.

Could any one though? could even the soldiers do that? yeah they train loads but could they do 100 pull ups to the high standard they want?

According to that, unless you're a soldier in Vietnam, you probably aren't reaching 100.

Why do you think they are rewarding the person who can do this with a hummer?

I hope some random freak sees this who can do like 1000 pull ups and just wins it with ease.

haha. yeah, that would be awesome, to get up there with 1 foot thick lats and bang out 250 dead hang pullups.

but i seriously doubt that anyone could do 100 full pull ups, which is why they say they'll give you a hummer.

i think the idea is to get people strong then recruit them into the army.

A big problem is that if they're strict about form (no kipping CrossFit-style ones) then even if you did do them strictly they could make up some shit about it not being strict (especially when you're nearing 100) so that they simply stop counting the reps so they won't have to deal it out.

I'm not sure how much of a rest you could get on that thing, even if you do manage to straighten and rest the arms (meaning, you relax the muscles and make your ligaments hold your bones together instead) then your grip still couldn't relax.

I'm not sure I understand what is meant by shifting the weight to your feet, like when people do an inverted squat or something? I think if your feet touched the bar it'd be the same as their touching the ground and invalidate the whole thing.

Dude with something like a free Hummer up for grabs... Even something that may be impossible can become achievable. I'd find a bar and just do pull ups and rope climbing whenever i get the chance, try doing 100 per day for a month then add 50% until you can do a thousand per day, this is possible my dad did it when he was in the army... and he only had two months.

The problem is that they don't give you enough time to work up to them, they surprise you with the challenge so there's not enough time to adapt unless it's already part of your lifestyle.
