When I do certain kicks like crescent kicks(cheat 7's..ect.) my hips will like pop or shift and it hurts after a while and keeps me from kicking properly. Is it my hip flexors that I need to stretch. Thats what Iwas thinking but I want a secong opinion. It hasnt happened to me all the time, just the past few weeks.

I remember having this a long time ago. It sucked for a couple of weeks and then went away. That is about all I remember.

Rest and lightly stretch your hip flexors. Stretch to gain range, but don't kill yourself with it.
That might help - seemed to help me with a similar problem. I could go into why, but I'd probably be wrong haha.
I have some strange problem with my left hip-flexor too...if I lift the left leg somewhat and turn it out to the left, its like some muscle/tendon/whatever moves over/against something and it really hurts. Its not like some regular cracking like can happen with knee/back/whatever, its a little more soft, but I can feel it moving inside and its really not pleasant.
I hate my damn hip-flexors, all they do is ache ache ache :(

yeah its the same for me, like a shifting or something in my left hip, only its never sore and doesn't hurt after it happens, but its irritating because it limits how I can kick.

That is what I had. On my left leg too:dead:
I have the same thing, I've rested it for about 3 months now (my foot is fucked so I can't do exercise anyways) and it hasn't even vaguely gone away. I used to get it periodically but now it appears pretty much permanent. I stretch it pretty casually regularly but to no avail so far. Freakin annoying >_>

Fuck that. I will find a cure. I'm not going to let that stop me from tricking.
mine pops whenever i throw my first kick of the session (both sides) then it goes away, but it only starts popping again if i dont warm up/stretch properly.
try warming up for longer or something, it worked for me ^^

It won't stop you from anything. Infact, it's perfectly harmless and isn't anything to be worried about unless you feel pain when it pops.

At last! Some actual advice!
Thank you, I will try stretching longer, and maybe do more to stretch my hip flexors out.

I think you'll find the third post in the thread contained "some actual advice".
More or longer stretches won't necessarily help you. I believe this can be caused by fatigue, so you may need to rest.

My hip kinda pops, but then I have a greater range of motion afterward.
I ignore it, i'm sure it will go away as long as I keep stretching.

That is exactly what i have! When tt was down i asked around on club540īs forum about it,but nobody answered! Its annoying as fuck,it has kept me off doing a lot of different kicks for about a month now.

Hahaha this does suck. It seems as though lots of trickers have this problems, but a definite answer has not been found. I will try resting and stretching more, but theres got to be a specific stretch or something that will help this.

theres a whole lot of talk about stretching the hip flexor, which is a good thing; but the problem may not be from inflexibility. your hips may pop because they are popping out in and out of place due to weak hips. im no doctor of course but if there isnt enough muscle tissue to support the hips, it is likely that a sudden jerk could pop it in and out which is also very likely that it may be the cause of pain. build strength AND flexibility and then see what happens. again this is just a hypothesis

Thanks, what exercise would you suggest to strengthen the hips/hip flexors?
ninjitsian
Dec-29-08, 10:10 PM
well, everyone around here suggests squats. but if you dont have access, id recommend this- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfOHYpcoBHc and isometric excercises(from dogen) this will also drastically help in your pregression so if it doesnt help, do it anyways!

Thanks, I'll try that out. Hahaha that one on youtube I can barely do properly so that might explain it, maybe I have weak hip flexors.
And what will it help as far as progression? kicking tricks?
ninjitsian
Dec-29-08, 10:22 PM
nah. that excercise alone and isometric exercises.

Man how u can get a six pack abs? I am sure u must have a particular diet.
For ex at stretching if u eat normal is better coz u have more energy same at weight lifting but at six pack ab.....

well, almost everything i'd imagine, seeing as we use our hip flexors in almost every trick. where you might see big increases is like, the speed and ease of kicks, tricks that use a gainer setup (more power in the kick), etc. i dont know, anything where using your hip flexor is a major part of the move hahah.

hes saying that eating normal is good for exercising or weight lifting, so that you have enough energy, but doesn't understand how someone could eat normally and get sixpack abs. i think haha.

Sorry Graber, it was just worded weird. It depends on your body fat percentage. If its very low, all you need to do is work your abs hard. If you have more body fat you should be concerned with losing fat first if you want visible abs.

How many times a day should I do this stretch and how long are the reps?

This might actually be true. I had surgery on my right meniscus so i only practiced my flex and kicks with my left leg for about a month. My left leg is the weaker one and when i had practiced kicks for about 20mins one day,i threw a roundkick and it hurt like fuck. Ever since then my leg has been less flexible,or at least it feels like it since it hurts to do front/crescent/round kicks right now.
i had this prob a couple of months ago. it has to do with several things all at once. this prob occurs when u drill too many aerials and 540 kicks, both of which the right foot lands first for those who have the pain in their left leg, and vice versa.
i tend to get it only wen i practice those moves and once i get the prob, it limits me from a variaty of kicks and even some tumbling. it also prevents u from doing a good split like stretch, and pretty much anything involving raising the knee and twisting it outwards.
im a thymo kinesiologist, and i got this prob a few times alredy, mainly from martial artists and gymnasts. there is a cure, and ive fixed everyone of them. the problem is that most professions such as chiro, physiotherapy, ostheopathy and masso therapy have absolutely no clue on how to fix this problem :S
ur hip flexors will hurt because ur hip isnt in the right place, and the reason for that is cuz ur inner hamstring is somewhat pulled and doesnt let go. now u mite not notice this because it is a small pull, but as u raise ur knee and especially turn it to the side, the muscle activates and pulls. this happens because something(aerial,540) dislocated ur hip initially and its trying to protect u from completely popping it out.
now getting it out is rather complicated. first u gota relax/massage both the inner hamstring and the hip flexor. once both muscles r relaxed, u gota pop the hip out and it will automatically go back into place. a few more adjustments to the outlying muscles to reinforce the hip and then ur done! the only prob is...u gota find someone who knows how to pull a hip lol
btw, all this sounds painful, but it actually feels good lol
i wish u luk...and maybe ull find another kinesiologist or atleast try to exaplin to another profession...maybe something will click in their minds and will b able to help u all!
Damn sounds reaalllyy good man. WTB you a plane ticket over here to fix mine...
if u pay for my ticket i wont mind at all :P

I have a problem with one of Dogen's isometric exercises. The one for the hip flexor where you just push your leg against a wall in front of you like a front leg raise.
It is way too easy not to work hard on that. The solution: place a scale up against the wall. Then you can look down and get a numerical readout of how hard you are pushing. Problem solved.

I have these clicks in my left hip too, for over a year.
Can anyone point out isometric exercises from dogen's tutorial that work on the hip flexor?

Anfeyd - over in the conditioning forum - gave me some advice for this.
It may help you to tilt your hips forwards more when kicking...
Test it with some front raises or something.
(Also, search this topic - it's been discussed a billion times).

Tilting my hips forward does prevent it from clicking, but on some kicks it's not very practical to try and lean forward. A cheat 720 for example, my hips click sometimes when doing these, but I can't really tilt my hips when doing them.
However if you are doing basic kicks or martial arts that's a good way to stop it from happening.

Man ninji, to bump a nearly month-old thread, you're a guy after my own heart! Anyway 540Ninja, about the hip-tilting, are you saying that the clicking is some kind of femur impingement that occurs when we stretch without adequately externally rotating during major adduction during these dynamic stretches?
