View Full Version : Training goals for 09? What're yours?

At the moment, I have a sheerly incredible
175 bench
270 deadlift (for 5 reps)
200 squat (for 5 atg reps)
I weigh 175lbs and I am carrying enough fat for me to not like it.
Personally, my goals for 09 are;
240-250 Bench
380-400 Deadlift (for reps)
A 300 ATG squat would be lovely, but after watching Frank Yang do 285 for 6 ATG, I do not think I will. But maybe a 300 just below parallel squat for 5 reps =]
By the end of 09, I am 100% fully confident I will be able to get to a 185lb reasonably low bodyfat frame, I do not see it as unrealistic to gain around another 25lbs of muscle within next year. Although I find it incredibly hard to get my strength up, I find it relatively easy to gain muscle and I am still luckily reaping noob gains.
I'm not sure how realistic my goals are haha, I think I will achieve the squat and deadlift by the end of 09 but I'm not sure about the Bench. I'm unfamiliar though with how most peoples progress goes on strength when doing rippetoes, despite that it says you can add weight every session I'm sure it'll be different for everyone.
Sooo yeah, anyone have any goals they'd like to achieve by the end of 09?

My goals this year are to just be more consistent in my lifting and eating habits and, as a result, watch my numbers increase further. As long as I'm getting stronger, I'm happy.

Also,
- power snatch BW+, power clean 1.5x BW, jerk at least 140 kg, and squat more
and
- pass my remaining two courses in introductory real analysis
- read fifty books
- relearn latin
Got to train the mind as well as body...

Chi; I'm still picking up on terminology when it comes to olympic lifts, whats the difference between a clean and a jerk? =]

Type clean & jerk on youtube, clean is the first part which the weight is pulled from the ground to rest on the front of the shoulders, then it's jerked over head(the jerk).

Hmmmm...
Goals for 2009.
I'm gonna get around to writing out my "Goal Sheets" within the next few days.
I need to design them well, because I will hang them up all year round as a reminder.
Good thread. If you take your time and plan your goals out well, it's well worth it in the end. :good:
umm my goals:
-deadlift: 297 lbs
-bench: as much as i physically can
-squat: as much as i physically can
get my body fat % down to around 6-7
and generally just train harder :)

Squat 200kg
Bench 140kg
Deadlift 255kg
raw at 85kg.
As for lifting numbers, I don't have any goals in mind. My only conditioning type goal would be a 3' standing vertical. I can do 2' now, I think adding the extra foot can be done in a year.
I'm going to try to train regulary. I've been to lazy the last year...

Shen you're already skinny.
My goals are to make my knee pain go away and make way on finding a way to feel 21 when I turn fifty because right now I feel fifty and i'm 21.

You posted a deadlift video of yourself without a shirt, it's safe to say you look skinny in that video.
I never said you planned on getting skinny, my point was that you were skinny and already pretty lean.

I actually second this notion. You did look fairly lean in the video, at least from what I could tell.
Shouldn't open my mouth though, a few inches shorter and alot lighter

I still need to revise my goals in specificity, but in general: Get better at everything I'm doing/want to do.
I have a few things in mind however:
- Possibly incorporate more Olympic lifts into my training.
- Squat 400lbs x 5
- Dead lift 500lbs x 5
- Bench 270-300lbs x 5
- Press 200+ lbs x 5
- Power clean 200+ lbs
- Possibly get leaner, considerably leaner than I am now at 200lbs would be good. My first step to this has already been taken by form of lowering my ridiculously(& uselessly) high carb intake & replacing it with moarrrrr fat.
- Grow a beard.
- Do well in my approaching exams.
- Re-read the following books:
Bill starr The strongest shall Survive
Starting strength 2nd edition
Practical Programming
Richard Dawkins The selfish gene
Metabolic Diet by Mauro Di Pasquale
Plus School(all curriculum's) exercise & work books
- Get an 11 second 100m dash at my heavier body weight.
- Start tricking in Spring, see if I like it & if so carry on successfully.
- Buy a load of new books(have a list somewhere) & read them.
- 100% complete all of Super Mario games(allstars cartridge).
- Buy a car subsequent to passing my practical exam.
Casper
Jan-01-09, 03:51 PM
why do you want to re-read the books?
+ nice goals
Aiden Bloodaxe
Jan-01-09, 04:04 PM
So I memorize them more & am able to use the information more productively for myself & in situations such as giving advice here on TT(as opposed to not remembering a segment & having to look it up in the appropriate book),plus they're just really good books.

Casper
Jan-01-09, 04:13 PM
yeah pretty decent i benched 120kg x 2 last week that was good so another 10kg and i'll be back on my old max
i fucked my back up deadlifting at newyears was a bit to angry didn't look what i was doing with like 170kg and kinda heard a pop (it's fine now but hurt like a mofo then)
but yeah can't complain looking forward to another training day!

haha i wasn't that lean in that particular video. a month or so prior to that i'd gotten "stupid lean" (at just below 80kg).
i'll bulk to about 95kg before cutting to 80kg again. it'll be fun.
also, i thought "skinny" was your attempt at insulting me, anfeyd (which i didn't particularly care about). in reality if i'm "skinny" but look awesome and am good at tricks then it doesn't matter.

I'd like to get proficient in training overhead squats, and be able to do it with 110lbs. I haven't got up the nerve to do this because the area around the dumbbells is always busy, and that's where they put those freeloaded barbells and stuff. Past that point I'd need to use the squat rack (110 is the heaviest set-load barbell) and it'd annoy people if I set the loading rack way up high where you would need it for an overhead squat.

I think I might change that squat goal to 210kg now. Just hit 190kg.
