Ok. Does/can jogging in place do anything to increase cardio?

Reason I'm asking is that I'm just coming off an injury and want to start running again but the weather has been between 20 and 30 below celcius for almost a month now before wind chill takes effect and I seriously dont want to risk frostbite or waste the cash to use a treadmill at the gym.

Why not HIT?

Why not HIT?

I dont find that HIT style training helps with my cardio. Plus i still lift weights and do my general training around the house.

"Helps with my cardio", what do you mean by that? Sprinting would be ideal from almost any perspective, jogging is pretty low in intensity and doesn't have much of a carryover to any sport unless you're competing in ... jogging.

You can also go swimming instead of running outside. It's much more fun!

Elevating your heart rate over time increases cardio. Jogging in places can do that but... you may as well jump rope so you'll at least increase coordination too. Some type of progressive measurement is needed, otherwise you just bounce around.

You mean HIIT?

HIT is something completely different.

I agree with this. Jogging has little use outside of recreational jogging. Sprinting is used in almost all sports, and increases explosiveness (which is necessary for tricking).

Hell, jogging is even useless from a distance runner perspective, since even that is pretty high intensity running.

I think with jogging, the idea is to displace yourself vertically far more than necessary to create ballistic forces (impact) on the joints, to toughen them and the skeletal system up for sprinting or something. Since it's slower than sprinting you don't risk tripping or falling over yet you can test yourself with more extreme forces than walking as prep?
