View Full Version : ankle flexibility
Can anyone suggest some good stretches for my ankle?
my ankles are quite stiff from lots of ankle sprains (especially my left ankle) and its preventing me from doing Squats and other leg exercises properly. :worry:

Check the main site on the flexibility section. A lot of the times it will actually be an achillies tendon issue and a lot of people mistake it for an actual ankle problem. Try these:

I always got a big pain on the front of my ankles when i tried to stretch my calves, and my foot has a tendancy to slightly evert when stretching. My girlfriend gave them a good massage and when i stretch them i rotate my body a bit to the side i'm stretching and it seems to help a bit.
Doing squats also seems to help, you can use a wide stance and gradually work your way in untill it's stretching your calves and your heels are still on the ground. Weighted squats work better (just go really carefull) than bodyweight as the calf muscles are quite strong which makes them a bitch to stretch and forcibly lengthen (alot of facia in that area too).
This is what i'm doing and it seems to be working slowly.
aight thnx for the tips, anyone also have problems where they get injured whilst tricking cuz of stiff ankles/achillies tendons?

Yes me. It might be related to the muscles on the sole of your foot being too tight (that's what an osteopath told me). I put a tennis ball under my desk an sort of roll my feet on it whenever I'm working or on the computer, it helps alot & takes no effort or additional time whatsoever. If you feel discomfort or pain while doing this your muscle is too tight..
- OR - if you know someone who knows how to do good foot massages & is willing to do it for you, get them to massage you. They should know their stuff though, apparently you can mess up pretty badly if it's done wrong.

I used to pull my ankle muscles all the time because they were weak from skateboarding, I bought an ankle support and wore it tricking everytime i trained for around 2months, now my ankles are perfectly fine and can take all the battering tricking gives them.
does walking around in heels help? xD
aight thnx for the tip, ive got an ankle support but when i train at the gym it tends to slip against plyo carpet flooring ;s
Ahh I had a laced up gymnastics one off the internet somewhere, I didnt really trick on plyo much when I had them because it was summer so I was always outside. It might be that you happen to just slightly over-flex it when all there is to stop that is rehabilitation and support, just a thought though.
No they dont, but they do make you calf muscles fucking huge ;)

Your ankles are weak, become strong by doing this:

then with weight until you can do this:
