Hello. I have stretched from May last year to december last year when I strained my groin. However before I strained myself I had stretched in about 150 days cold with a little progress and then I started to warm up and kept doing it till now. Before I strained my groin I felt progress in the latest weeks and I could get this far then:

My question is: Is it common that it takes this long? I'm not even down yet! How long does it take for a normal person?

There is no "average" time for a "normal" person. It all depends on age, gender, previous training, mood, time of the day you stretch, and a lot of other factors including nutrition.

P.s. Your split looks very good and you're getting very close so keep it up :good:

Okej. Some of the people here says most people get the split in 2 months or less.

Thank you! I appreciate that!

Fancy techniques can get you splits in 2 months. Can be much longer if you're using relaxed stretching alone.

My split guide written by djoyce

Warm Up 10 mins fast running etc

Ease into front split hold for 30 seconds
2nd front split stretch a tiny bit more hold for 30 seconds
[repeat the easy stretching for 5 sets]
6th front split hold for 1 min bit of pain felt
7th same as 6
8th front split forced, gradually, pain felt, hold for 2 eight second counts
9th same as 8 but go further.

your main problem by the sounds of it was that you didnt "ENGAGE THE GLUTES!"

but in all seriousness try a trick i read in here a while back. it was a guide called monster flexibility and showed some pretty ridiculously flexible people. the main concept of the idea off memory was to stretch down to the point where it starts to hurt, then raise a little, i.e a couple mm. then flex and "engage the glutes" for around 10 seconds and repeat. i tried this for 1 month and got extremely close to the splits after being quite ridiculously far off. i tried going for it twice a day, once upon waking and once before bed :good:

I bet stretching would be easier if we all used bidets. Toilet paper is so painful, it makes you not want to move anything in that region at all.

Ive been stretching for a year and a half and i can almost do a front split but only half way to a side split, and i have had many professionals teach me stretchs also. But ive met people who side split in a year. Like previous posts have said everyones dif. Im not sure if height plays a part in it but im 6ft6 and everyone ive met that can split are much shorter then me.
