*** Contains biased rant  ***

I'd actually really like to give this a go.

I've done various forms for promotional events and TKD tournaments that have gone down well, however ive never really had longer than 2 weeks to come up with a form or practise one. I'd like to give it a go in 09.

However from talking to people like Phil Campbell (veteran of these events) its pretty pointless to try competing in the UK because you're just not gonna win.

Brian and Ashley Beck are the reasons why.

If you've ever seen Phil Campbell trick, he's fucking flawless. He throws stuff out of nowhere and its always with 100% conviction. However last year he commented that, as with all tournaments, Ashley Beck's dad, Brian, is the chief judge. Phil performed his form perfectly, without fault. When Ashley did his, he blatantly bailed a move and hastily covered it up. Ashley won without contest.

When Phil questioned it, he was told that Ashley won because "he covered up his bail really well". It seems therefore that the final judges call will favour the chief judges son rather than the best competitor.

Does anyone have any additional info on form competitions in the UK?

also, check out this website.

Although what I'm about to say ain't a form competition, they do have a tricking competition (xma lolol) once a year called the Watford nationals. The only ACTUAL tricker who enters really is Compacttricks on here, the others are mostly guys from Airborn entertainment like ryan doyle and shit.

Could be worth a look into ^.^

yeah man, if you could PM me with any details i'd be up for it.

I'm a massive fan of putting the MA back in MAT forms. I basically started tricking watching the likes of matt emig, steve terada, kim do and ben brown doing their forms, and I want to do my bit.

i'd also probably be the only guy not wearing a silk-and-spandex uniform haha

To be honest andy I know jack all about it haha, I just know it's called the watford open nationals and I believe it is near yeovil.

I know in 08 Dean (compacttricks) won, but this year Ryan won, but the judges badly favourite ryan despite how he ain't improved at all for about 6 years. He isn't that good.

I'll google it now for you and PM you if I see anything about it =]

I googled for like a minute and came to the conclusion it may not have an official website. Best bet would be PM'ing Compacttrickz about it and asking him, or better yet adding him on msn. I think K slash wants to go next year too haha.

It's not like pure XMA shiz, like screaming and shit, it's more like tricking battles haha.

Actually...nearly everyone wears traditional ma outfits...though very light weight...

Anyways...NASKA is the pretty big one in sport karate...I'm not to sure about the UK. I'm not up on the tourny scene lately...but I'd suggest if you are serious about competing you start practicing your hand combinations and start working them into your tricks.
